The singer Marie-Chantal Toupin was to occur two times in eight days in Shawinigan. However, it has had to cancel one of his shows. She is now facing a lawsuit.

In an agreement with Culture Shawinigan, tied last January, the singer had agreed to sign an exclusivity clause, preventing it from happening elsewhere in the region during the summer.

The problem is that Marie-Chantal Toupin has subsequently committed to go on stage at the musical festival South festival to be held another outdoor show which was to take place this Thursday, always in Shawinigan, eight days before his show at the city centre.

“When we knew that it had an agreement with the cultural corporation of Shawinigan, it is advised to know if she had an exclusivity clause. His manager has assured us that no, it is not possible to sing two songs. It was signed, but obviously it was wrong of the show,” explained Anik St-Pierre, organizer of the South festival.

In order to fulfill its first contract, the singer has cancelled, last Friday, his participation in the South festival.

Marie-Chantal Toupin could now be the subject of a prosecution of the leaders of the event who have had to find a plan B at the last moment.

“It assesses our actions. It is certain that there is damage. We had done the advertising and all the world knew that she was coming here. It doesn’t mean that we’re going to do [to pursue it], but the option is being considered,” added Ms. St-Pierre.

This is Wilfred LeBouthillier, who has agreed to replace Marie-Chantal Toupin up. The musicians of the South in the party have four days to learn the entire repertoire of the singer of acadian.
