Dorcel regrets that the producers do not get wet on virtual reality

dorcel-vrGregory Dorcel, son of and patron of the brand Dorcel, doubt the potential of virtual reality in the porn industry, the fault of the producers too chilly to his liking.

When thinking about applications of virtual reality, the pornography industry arises as obvious. Yet Gregory Dorcel, CEO of the famous French brand, is no longer convinced we learned this morning Les Echos .

Last October, the company produced two films for virtual reality helmets, with 360 videos. The more sober of the two was free, the other sold 10 euros. Result: 80 000 downloads in the first 15 000 sales for the second. Either a turnover of EUR 150 000, for a production that has cost 200,000.

Turn these films indeed involved a significant investment, with the use of 18 cameras rotating a clip without director in the field. Conditions which repel the producers? “For there to be a real business model, it would have to be more tender. We, we get wet, but other producers seem to play a waiting game. This is the offer that made the request. I see no market for at least five years. But in five years we will be moved on; maybe holograms? ”

Gregory Dorcel, so the reluctance of other pornography market players which is responsible for very moderate success of his films. The boss remains convinced of the merits of its initiative in the field: “As everyone can have access to X, we must give more to our customers, pamper and provide real added value,” suggests Gregory Dorcel, justifying the choice of business succession embrace DVD, video on demand or 3D.

Virtual reality is therefore currently not the goose that lays golden eggs for the porn industry. The high prices of the first specialized helmets will probably not help him develop.
