By 2020, the United States, electric and hybrid vehicles should be fitted with a transmitter sound in order to signal their presence to other road users, mainly pedestrians and cyclists.

The project, which was born in 2013 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), should be in force in 2020. When they will go at a speed of 30 km/h or less, a noise must be issued in order to announce their presence.

At a higher speed, it is estimated that the noise caused by the friction of the tyres on the bitumen is enough to be heard.

Annually, this measure is expected to decrease from 2400 to the number of people injured by green vehicles.

In addition to not consuming gasoline, electric vehicles do not emit noise. They therefore contribute to the elimination of a part of the noise pollution from car traffic. However, this advantage of electric vehicles falls to the water with this new regulation.

On electrek.co, it is reported that Tesla would have thought of an alternative solution to avoid installing a speaker on the vehicles produced by this manufacturer. For the moment, Elon Musk remained vague, but strong are the chances that we will know more by the entry into force of this measure.

For the moment, there is no question of a regulation similar to Canada.
