MONTREAL – The regional Authority of metropolitan transport (ARTM) approved, Friday, the folder opportunity of the extension of the blue line of the Montreal metro (subway) up to Anjou. Its commissioning is expected to take place in 2025.

Even if it has been approved, it must now be forwarded to the Ministry of Transport, sustainable Mobility and the Electrification of transport in Quebec (MTMDET) for validation and approval. It is the Council of ministers who will make the final decisions.

The extension of the blue line has been expected for thirty years in Montreal. In its last budget, the Quebec government has finally committed to set aside funds for the launch of the work in 2021, but did not give a specific amount with regard to its financial contribution, as the federal government. According to the evaluations, this project could cost nearly $ 3 billion of public funds.

The extension of the metro in brief

The proposed extension of the blue line includes five new stations to the east of the Saint-Michel station: Pie-IX, Viau, Lacordaire, Langelier and Anjou, and it extends over a distance of more than 5.5 km, in the axis of the rue Jean-Talon.

According to preliminary studies, traffic daily from this extension is estimated to be about 25 to 600 users.
