After years of rumors, the secret to be the least well kept of the automotive industry has finally been revealed. Yes, Toyota will resurrect the Supra.

The manufacturer made the announcement as part of the opening of the auto Show in Geneva, Switzerland. Except that it is necessary (yet) to wait before they finally see the car.

In the meantime, Toyota has unveiled a concept thought to the track that gives a very good idea of what this future Supra will look. The GR Supra Racing Concept is its name, is definitely putting the emphasis on performance.

It adopts a design that is strongly inspired by the concept FT-1, another model, presented by Toyota a few years already. With a total length of 4.57 meters, it is a little shorter than a Honda Civic or a Toyota Corolla.

Like the Supra of the 80’s and 90’s, the GR Supra Racing Concept is equipped with an engine positioned at the front and a cog drive. Toyota ensures that everything has been implemented to make the car as light as possible.

No word, however, on the mechanical, which is located under the hood. Several rumors are a turbocharged engine or even hybrid, but it will still have to wait to have the heart net. Obviously, Toyota likes to keep the suspense!

    A name that resonates

It has now been 16 years that the Toyota Supra has retired. Except that with the madness of the video game Gran Turismo and the series of movies Fast and Dangerous, the japanese model has reached a status rather special in the hearts of the fans performance.

First introduced in 1978 to designate a version more powerful of the Celica, the name Supra has become a fully-fledged model in 1986. And then, after years of doing honour to the brand, the model finally bowed out in 2002.

The future Supra, for its part, has been developed in partnership with the German manufacturer BMW, which has taken advantage of this association to design the new generation of its Z4.
