Netflix has decided to cancel Iron Fist after two seasons.

Could this be a harbinger of the end of an era Marvel on the canal Netflix, at the dawn of a Disney Play that will put them in a direct competitor of the heavy weight of SVoD ? While the season 3 of Daredevil arrives this week, Netflix announced the cancellation of the Iron Fist, created by Scott Buck, after two seasons.

Launched in 2017 after Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Iron Fist and was considered almost unanimously to be the weakest of the universe. And despite a second season less flat, Danny Rand is taking its final bow.

Give her super mask and slip back into anonymity

The actor Finn Jones, considered largely responsible for the failures of the series, shared her emotion all cute on Instagram, with a little philosophy counter : “With every end, there is a new beginning.”

The annulment ofIron Fist is heavy with meaning, and confirms that this small Marvel universe isolated on Netflix is a mystery. Danny Rand has in (great) part was launched to be able to create The Defenders, a meeting of the super-hero on the small screen. The series has been a failure, nearly clear, has not passionate crowds, and the whole project has been buried since. The characters are so isolated, in charge of defending their territory solo, and obviously Iron Fist had not the kidney to justify its existence, without a new meeting.

If Daredevil is still very popular, the future of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, which are not as appreciated, therefore, could logically be questioned.

Great training moment

The other question is related to Disney Play, the streaming service that Disney is going to launch in 2019 in the United States to compete with Netflix. Daredevil and company were produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, which both belong to Disney. If the details of the agreements between Mickey and Netflix are unknown, there is no doubt that Disney is going to want to get these super-hero for the host on its own service of SVoD. There is no doubt also that Netflix is aware, and that behind the scenes, the management of these series is not a trivial matter.

The official press release from Marvel and Netflix states that the series is dead on Netflix but “the immortal Iron Fist will continue to live” : what does it imply that a renaissance elsewhere, such as on Disney Play, is not impossible.
