The turn is a virtual force of Laval University students to take online classes against their will represents a “drift” which should be remedied, denounces the Coalition Avenir Québec.

The Newspaper reported Friday at the Université Laval, the number of distance education courses increases to a point that it is impossible to follow some courses in the classroom, on the campus. In this institution, enrollments in online courses have tripled in 10 years, and students may be forced to keep three or even four distance-learning courses on five during the same session.

“I find it shocking, that students who want to study in class to be redirected to the online course,” says the mp caquiste Jean-François Roberge. It believes that this “slip” could have been avoided if clear guidelines had been established by the ministry of Education and higher Education.

Mr. Roberge did not blame the Université Laval, who “follows the rules” while showing creativity, but rather the lack of supervision of Quebec. These tags are more necessary than ever, as work is underway to set up an “e-campus” quebec to further develop the offering of courses online in the university network of the province.

Mr. Roberge states that the distance learning courses are “a good solution in which to invest,” provided that it is an addition to the course offerings in the class, and not an “alternative solution” imposed on those who do not want it.
