OTTAWA – The New democratic Party (NDP) and the parliamentary Group in quebec will claim it, today, that the Trudeau government to take measures to combat pimping and trafficking of persons.

The NDP and former mps of the Bloc québécois, accompanied by representatives of the Concertation of struggles against sexual exploitation and the House of Melanie, will request that the government adopts a law quickly to combat the sexual exploitation.

The deputies proposed that the government sign the bill C-452, which had been sanctioned in June 2015. This bill, introduced by Maria Mourani, is to amend the criminal Code to include consecutive sentences for the pimps.

The prime minister Justin Trudeau, however, had hesitated to sign the bill on the ground that the consecutive sentences could be unconstitutional. A second draft law to amend C-452, to take account of these reserves were deposited in February 2017, but has not reached the stage of debates in the Commons.
