OTTAWA | Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, Ottawa will have to close its doors from 8 to 22 January next because of renovation work on the building.

The closure will allow for the installation of scaffolding around the main entrance and the colonnade of the museum, including the windows and the roof need to be replaced.

The site will then be underway in the spring and should be completed in the autumn.

The museum will once again become accessible to the public on January 23, and will remain during all the work. However, the ticket office and membership services will be relocated in the hall Sketches, near the entrance of the groups, until the end of the renovations.

A total of 1427 panels of glass make up the main entrance and colonnade. The iconic facade of the museum, measuring more than 21 meters high and extends in length over 87 feet.

Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, the design was inspired by the Scala Regia, a staircase of the Vatican.
