CALGARY | had pink and white Swoop Airlines, the carrier discount airline that plans to launch WestJet, will start to criss-cross the skies of Canada as early as 2018.

With this new company, WestJet’s intention to offer tickets up to 40 % cheaper than the prices currently in force in the country. To achieve this, Swoop Airlines will offer a service “à la carte”, where snacks, meals, checked baggage and onboard entertainment will all be offered as extra.

“The name Swoop denotes exactly what we intend to do. […] We plan to sweep to swoop, in English) the canadian market with a new business model that will offer lower prices and more opportunities for Canadians to travel,” explained the executive vice-president of WestJet, Bob Cummings, in a press release.

In a first time, Swoop Airlines operate six Boeing 737-800 aircraft medium-haul with between 180 and 190 seats. Their number could rise up to 10 devices, ” said Mr. Cummings in the “Financial Post”.

The list of cities that will be served by Swoop, however, has not been revealed for the moment.

The headquarters of Swoop Airlines will be located in Calgary, such as WestJet, so that the company at a discount to be able to use the facilities of its parent company to save money.

Swoop Airlines can expect to face a strong competition on the market of cheap flights. In particular, Canada Jetlines plans to launch its own service in the summer of 2018, while Air Canada intends to take advantage of that with his service to discount Air Canada Rouge.
