We often hear that young people watch more series than films. Except for those stories there, whose format has evolved the other way.
Nothing is lost, everything is transformed ! On the one hand, the matter is already there, we agree. The plot, the characters, their links, the important events … Nevertheless, the writing is not the same, between a series composed of multiple episodes and a good feature film in one go. We’ll have to ask the guys who dealt with these transitions to find out more. In any case, to say that one watches only series is exaggerated and one proves it by showing the examples where we look at cinematographic versions of what our parents were watching on TV .
Scooby-Doo
Distributed from 1969 to 1970 on CBS, the original series “Scooby-Doo, where are you?” Had introduced the four adolescent hunters of supernatural mysteries, aboard their van. More than forty years later, in 2002, a film was released with Freddie Prinze Junior and Sarah Michelle Gellar in particular. Well, well, it was not crazy . Some funny moments of course, nothing crazy despite everything. Our parents were lucky again. It was really better before.
Charlie and his funny ladies (Charlie’s Angels in VO)
Another thing that connects us to our parents. Or who differentiates us! At the time of its first broadcast between 1976 and 1981, the series stunned ABC. Normal, seeing three women played the main roles were not usual, far from it! The girl power and comedy-sexy side was out of the ordinary, with a success to the key. The film with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu respects the delirium but it does not have the same flavor. The idea is necessarily less transgressive today, it is certain. After, question pognon, it goes because a sequel was still released on the big screen three years later, in 2003.
Starsky and Hutch
Go and find out why, you were singing that when you were a kid: “Starsky and Hutch, tininininin …” Surely a shot of the daron, or an uncle if not. No need to be Sherlock Holmes, the series was broadcast between 1975 and 1979 on ABC, so we can eliminate the possibility of having seen it live. It’s just that our elders have gravely kissed the two casual Bay City detectives, who were strutting in Starsky’s Gran Torino under the California sun. A buddy series that gave a buddy movie in 2004, displaying Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as shock acolytes. Film not crazy that brought back the pennies he owed, so it passes.
The fugitive (The Fugitive in VO)
Attention, magic wand! From a series of 120 episodes, each of a duration of 51 minutes, boom: a 2-hour film. Obviously, the plot is not as much developed between Dr. Richard Kimble and police officer Samuel Gerard. Between the two, too, many years: 30, to be precise . The series was on ABC from 1963 (until 1967) while the film with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones squatted the cinema in 1993.
The Untouchables (The Untouchables in VO)
Probably the best adaptation, to credit Brian de Palma. Stretched over four highly fictional seasons (between 1959 and 1963), the original series on ABC focused more on the sides than the real fight against the prohibition of agent Eliot Ness. The 1987 film, where the agent is incarnated by Kevin Costner and the mafioso Al Capone by Robert De Niro, made much better the very special functioning of the economy in this era. Critical and commercial success, the feature film even brought back a trophy for the best supporting role to Sean Connery . Let us confirm all the same the basis: the works were both based on the memories of Eliot Ness and Oscar Fraley.
The Brady Tribe (The Brady Bunch in VO)
The least known of the lot, no doubt! Also broadcast on American ABC between 1969 and 1974, this series showed our parents the hectic life of a family of six children, with its share of parallel or cross stories. A nice thing, which does not break three legs to a duck and will even be canceled after five seasons. Before being taken with humor in a parodic film and successful in 1995 . The creators have just played on the old school side of the series, amplified it, made fun of it, while including us in delirium.
Impossible mission
And hop, second successful challenge for Brian de Palma! Because his film showing us Tom Cruise in BG mode in 1996 is well inspired by the series that CBS was rocking between 1966 and 1973 (and ABC, between 88 and 90). But evolution is obvious: more actions! The real and the actor have pushed the trick: one of the secret agents finds himself trapped by a mole, which puts to him the murders of the rest of the team on the back. Tom Cruise aka Ethan Hunt must then identify him, and it will move! Much more than during the five seasons when boss Dan Briggs said: “This band will self-destruct in …” Moreover, the actors of the series were in rageous mode, after the success of the film. One imagines their reaction after the sequels (a sixth film arrives in 2018).
The post Our parents matted the series, we film, it’s the world upside down first appeared on The Siver Times.

An allegory of the appeal – against appeal. You think … and then it’s the other way around. A known blow and my faith always effective when it is well done, then why deprive it? There the writers create a monster that turns out to be a good paw. Gentile, funny, sensitive … So, once is not custom, one would have become a friend with him! Finally, with them, because we have several examples in mind more or less known.
Guy Mann (“X-Files”)
While Mulder and Scully think they are suing a big-footed villain for horrendous grizzly murders, who likes to turn into a monster, it’s the other way around. Guy Mann proves to be a lizard, at the base, before being bitten one day by a human . This gave him the ability to transform himself into a man and feel the same vicissitudes of life as our: to want to be recognized, loved. Not bad for a penny.
Clement (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”)
Assumed to be a demon, Clement is a cream. Adoring Buffy and Dawn, playing poker-kitten with Spike, a loyal and devoted friend , he really does not deserve to be judged on his appearances. It’s true that his big ears dangling, his wrinkled skin and his growths grow back a bit, but “Clem” is a guy to the cool fact.
Five (“Seven Little Monsters”)
Fifth and last member of the twin siblings, Five taps a little on the system of the others. Already because one does not understand anything what he says, then because it connects the dumplings. As clumsy as hairy (mats his blue fur), Five apologizes to big strokes and asks for forgiveness with the smile and embarrassment of a child.
Cousin Itt (“The Addams Family”)
An energetic, especially from an aesthetic point of view. Extremely long hair hides the whole of his body, so much so that one does not know his face. His beret, his sunglasses in Beatles mode and his gloves are the only details visible . In addition, when he bargouines (with an English accent and a high-pitched voice), nothing is pinched. Except his family, including his cousin Gomez. In the end, he helps and visits everyone, so cousin Itt is accepted.
Herman Munster (“The Monsters”)
Creature born by Dr. Frankenstein – which is easily understood by the resemblance – Herman Munster left Germany at a very young age for England. Where it will be adopted by the noble family of Munster. In this series, this force of nature humps in the cemetery and does not disturb his colleagues too much. Above all, he becomes a good father, considerate, understanding, wielding irony and self-deprecation , loving to have fun like a child: balloon, toys, comics … and eating mass of pancakes cooked by his wife Lily.
Mr. Bumpy (“Bump in the night”)
As a big bug under the bed of a child, Mr Bumpy lives at night. It is the moment when he leaves his hiding place to play, to make jokes, to carry out perilous missions for his friends … Always persuaded that it passes, it tries everything. And sometimes , Mr. Bumpy just makes the gogole like your stuffed buddy, riding a plucked chicken or wearing a ridiculous wig . In spite of his appearance (fine limbs, 4 fingers with each hand, 2 toes with each foot), it has all the good buddy. Except that he likes to eat socks disguised or chewing gums already chewed.
Sweetums (“The Muppet Show”)
Of a high height, this hairy beast surpasses its human congeners, just as it often ruffles with its air constantly jaded and discontented. His bushy eyebrows (Fillon is a small player next to him) as well as his huge piss could make freak but Sweetums compensates by a passion for singing and dancing . Finally, this humble and sensitive monster loves to cuddle. Then as a beast of nightmare, we saw worse.
Cookie Monster (“Sesame street”)
Like an old-fashioned puppet of Guignols, covered with a thick blue fur, with the behavior of a kid. Of child, rather! Hardly able to express himself correctly ( “Me want cookie” ), with a limited vocabulary and a chaotic grammar, he simply eats whatever he can, all the time . Cookies if possible, if not what happens nearby. Much like the kids, they quickly loved Cookie Monster. If it were supposed to frighten them, the record is a failure. Which one would you choose?
The post We would have become friends with these TV monsters first appeared on The Siver Times.

Long before “The Big Bang Theory,” the Nerds already appeared, including the female. Their lack of swagg could mislead you: they were nice.

We are not going to lie, we all thought and thought like that. The colleague, the girl with glasses bottle ass the old blouses or sweaters dégueus, bah boys preferred to avoid (this also works in reverse, by the way) . Strangely, you were more motivated to approach the others, the popular … So, the intellos dragged between them, and the others did the same. Too bad, because despite their difficulty to go to others, to make the cool chicks, to engage the conversation, these girls were super actually. The proof with these serial characters that we watched on TV at the time, in the 90s.
Andrea Zuckerman (“Beverly Hills, 90210”)
She clearly had nothing to do with the rest of the band. They thought above all of having fun, partying, drying the courts, galocher … Just the first names gave you a clue. She, Andrea, came from another district and wished successful school, she was working hard, was motivated . With her floral shirts and glasses, she was mature. Finally, old and boring what. But in the end, the “reporter” Brandon makes his acquaintance, finds it nice and hangs with her. So ? Of course she can be funny and relax!
Lindsay Weir (“Freaks and geeks”)
Obsessed by the math, little Lindsay was outright competitions. Called a “mathlete” . And yeah my buddy, that has a name! In short, when her grandmother dies, she wants to change her life. No more math and shit look, Lindsay wants to patronize the bad boys and girls rebels, those who do not care nothing ongoing . She exchanges her rolled collars and old pullovers against the military jacket and the jeans of the daron. Well, the style remains average but it proves that it can also have moments of madness and delusion.
Monica Geller (“Friends”)
Gifted at school, serious, organized, responsible … Monica has always been like that. From high school, when she was slightly overweight. Although it dried years later, it has not changed. She wants to succeed everything, win everything, do everything perfectly, applied nerd who respects : Chandler’s regime, his marriage, the American football game on Christmas Eve … So yes, you sometimes succeed to bear. Still, she makes us laugh and we would all like to have a friend like that.
Topanga Lawrence (“The Incorrigible Cory”)
As the title of the series indicates, the central character is Cory Matthews. From college to high school, one follows his adventures: in family, in progress, in love … And it is precisely on this last point that Topanga plays a role. And yet she was leaving from a distance! The first name, already. His delirium for the environment and his vegetarianism, then. Her dress style, based glasses, ponytail, finally . And as time goes on, all this disappears and Topanga sends heavy. Not crazy, Cory sees it too and their story can begin. Her coolness does not depend on her ability to chop: instead of going to Yale, this super intelligent chick chose to go to the local high school to stay with her pals.
Penelope Russo (“Little Flower”)
The starting pitch concerns Nick Russo, a divorced father who takes care of his three kids. Two boys and a girl, Penelope, nicknamed “little flower”. Sensitive, intelligent, with taste, she has many qualities. She even has a boyfriend, Vinnie Bonitardi .
