After realizing the great but underrated UNCLE: UNCLE Code , Guy Ritchie returns this week to the movies with King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur, energetic rewriting of the myth , which takes a few liberties with the original story. So to believe that the British director, to whom we also owe the two feature films on Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr, likes to reinvent the greatest fictional figures of our culture! Tackling King Arthur, however, is no small matter, especially since the character has already been interpreted dozens of times and has illustrated himself on numerous supports. So history to distinguish itself from what has already been done, Guy Ritchie has infused an epic fantasy to his film, Reusing gimmicks to the gimmicks that make up his trademark . The editor of melty had the opportunity to talk to him a few days before the release of King Arthur in order to ask him about his choice of direction and the challenge of filming the film !
This is the second time you have adapted a well-known fictional character. What attracts you to this kind of exercise?
I do not know. I think I like the challenge. I like the idea of taking a … mark, if you can call it that, to turn it over completely and see if you can make something new, new, contemporary while capturing at the same time The essence of history.
There are many features of fantasy movies in King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur. Why did you choose this particular approach?
Because I thought it would be more entertaining in this way, mainly. And that it would be more unpublished. I turn my movies on a certain frequency. You know, kind of like a radio frequency. You have ” Classic FM “, you have ” Pop “, you have ” Rock ” or ” Jazz “. And each film has its own film. And if you like this particular sound, then you love the movie too. If you do not manage to be in unison with the rhythm, with frequency, then it’s hard to love the movie. Explaining a rhythm or frequency to someone who does not feel the same is like trying to explain a color to a blind man.
The narrative structure of King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur is very fragmented, with ellipses, flashforwards, flashbacks. Is this way of editing the film also a way for you to modernize the myth, break codes?
Yes, in a way. I mean, I am very much influenced by the traditional oral narratives, which tend to bounce back and forth in all directions and speak of specters, ghouls, all while being very poetic and colorful. And I love this traditional way of telling stories. So I’m more interested in this way of telling stories, with their folklore. I see my films as if they were fables that gipsy could tell around a campfire.
You did not think of Charlie Hunnam at all to play King Arthur. How did he convince you that he was made for the role? And what about David Beckham, who makes a cameo in the film?
By his enthusiasm, basically. He was very enthusiastic. And when I met him, I felt that he operated on the same frequency as me. So it quickly became clear that we understood each other the kind of film we wanted to do and that we would be able to be in harmony with each other on what we were going to do. As for David Beckham, it was the same thing. He was on the same frequency as us. Do you want to see the film?
The post King Arthur: Guy Ritchie, “I see my films as fables” first appeared on The Siver Times.

It is indeed today that leaves on our screens The King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur, energetic rewriting of the myth that we owe to Guy Ritchie, director among others of the two Sherlock Holmes and Snatch . Charlie Hunnam, seen recently in The Lost City of Z (James Gray), has the heavy task of lending his features to the noble character of Arthur, already many times interpreted in the cinema. And we must admit that if the film itself tends to go a little in all directions, the actor is doing pretty well , Giving flesh to this new fantasy-like version of the king of legend. Then, on the occasion of the arrival of the feature film in our cinemas, the editor of melty had the opportunity to talk with him to ask him some questions about his interest in the role and what ” He thinks of this rather unusual vision of the Arthurian hero!
Why did you absolutely want to play King Arthur? What attracted you to the role?
Because it’s an excellent role! Playing Arthur gives the opportunity to do really exciting things. For me, the role evokes things of life that have always interested me. And it’s always exciting to be able to play a character that explains exactly what we personally care about in life, especially the old terrible conflict between fear and faith, which really interests me a lot and which is At the heart of history. But all this combines with the fact that I am also a huge fan of Guy Ritchie. And I’ve always been a true fan of the Arthurian legend since I was a kid, the story captivated my imagination. So thirty years later, when my favorite director wanted to tackle it and reinvent it, I quickly realized that I wanted to be part of the adventure.
King Arthur as presented in the film is different from the one we know. Are you not afraid that the spectators will be a little confused or that they will not be able to attach themselves to him?
We always have this fear when we make a film, whatever it is, and when we take the responsibility of giving life to a character. I do not really subscribe to the idea that the character is so different, I feel like I’m part of the minority on this and that people are afraid that we will move away from this Which is generally expected of the character of Arthur. As pretentious as it may seem, but failing a better term, I see myself as a student of the narrative process. I have spent most of my life, as an adult but also as a teenager, trying to understand and explore it. And in fact, the story is exactly the same. We truly respected the essence of history. We simply dressed it differently. That’s how I see things. But I thought it was an exciting way to give a new version of a story that is very familiar to us. But at the heart of the Arthurian legend, there is above all the desire to have access to a better version of oneself with all that is inherent in this kind of journey, namely the inevitable conflict between fear And faith. And I think that’s something we’re very familiar with.
At the beginning of the film, Arthur is thinking a little about Jax Teller, from Sons of Anarchy. Who do you think is the worst thug?
The worst thug? I do not think they’re really thugs. I think above all that these two characters are the products of their environment, as we all are, and who in the end show a lot of kindness, although I would not say that they necessarily have noble intentions. I mean, they’re not afraid to fight. But yes, Jax Teller killed more people so I would say he’s the worst thug.
The post King Arthur: Charlie Hunnam, “We truly respected the essence of history” first appeared on The Siver Times.

The opportunity, of course, for the British director to rewrite the Arthurian myth and offer a new version of this character that everyone knows. If you’ve seen the last trailer of King Arthur , you already know that the film gives pride of place to the epic and unbridled action, recounting Arthur’s quest to claim his inheritance and revenge himself for the death of his Parents, murdered by his uncle Vortigern (Jude Law). To achieve its ends, He can count on the resistance formed by a handful of thugs with a big heart and guided by Sir Bedivere (Djimon Hounsou) and a mysterious mage with impressive powers (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey). And what does it matter that Arthur, raised in a brothel of the city of Londinium and become a kind of gang leader with whom one does not joke, initially does not want to embark in this war. Becoming a king is his destiny and he will have to do it! So, with his scenes stuffed with action and magic and his new approach to the legendary king, Does Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur manage to pay tribute to the character? Brought up in a brothel in the city of Londinium and become a kind of gang leader with which one does not joke, initially does not want to embark in this war. Becoming a king is his destiny and he will have to do it! So, with his scenes stuffed with action and magic and his new approach to the legendary king, Does Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur manage to pay tribute to the character?
First of all, the editor of melty prefers to warn you: if you think you are going to see a faithful transcription of the adventures of Arthur, you risk being surprised. Because when Charlie Hunnam teased that the hero of King Arthur was very different from that of the legend , he did not joke! If some elements of the famous legend are present – Excalibur, the Lady of the Lake, the Knights of the Roundtable in the making, Camelot – the film abandons the Arthurian romance to register rather in the genre of fantasy . Arthur himself is far from being the noble and brave knight that we know, Charlie Hunnam being the type to fight against his inheritance rather than to embrace it with determination.
As much as to say that the connoisseurs of the legend of King Arthur risk being a little lost, Guy Ritchie rewriting the story in his sauce with large reinforcements of special effects. Amateurs of epic fantasy such as The Lord of the Rings version Peter Jackson or such Game of Thrones , on the other hand, should find their account. The battle scene that opens the film gives time and has enough to leave you a little on the tile! The performance of Charlie Hunnam, however, will put everyone in agreement , the actor confers on his character a perfect mix of impertinence and vulnerability , as well as that of Jude Law, who obviously bursts out to play the Cruel but blase wicked and, above all,
But what should also be known is that King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur is a pure film by Guy Ritchie. So if you are not too fans of the director, his staging may disrupt you a bit! Slow motion or, on the contrary, acceleration of the images, ellipses and flashforward nested in flashbacks are omnipresent, the film relying almost more on its visual and sound (the soundtrack made by Daniel Pemberton is, for the coup, particularly successful) Than on his dialogues. What sometimes makes the action a little messy, we must admit. From a positive point of view, this fragmented narrative gives the film an unbridled and delirious energy , Which largely contributes to give a new vision of the character of Arthur and its history. But on the other hand, this deluge of images and this frantic rhythm sometimes lead to confusion, even to drowning the intrigue, passing clearly in silence whole sections of his universe. And that’s frankly a shame …
Remains a spectacular and epic film, which is full of eyes – the special effects obviously occupy an important place on the screen – and which happens to slip here and there a few (moments) of humor. Under his film show-off features, King Arthur certainly has a heart, with his moments of bravery and sympathetic characters, but he tends to be overwhelmed by the energy (or chaos, depending on the point of view) . But if you’re looking for epic battles, some creepy magical creatures and wizards with disturbing powers, then King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur is for you! Will you see the movie?
The post King Arthur: An Energetic Rewriting of the Legend, Our Critic first appeared on The Siver Times.

Next Wednesday , King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur , directed by Guy Ritchie, comes out on our screens with, of course, his share of bloody battles and magic. What then to give a new version of the legend of the King of Britons, iconic figure if it is and even image of the noble and courageous sovereign. For if you’ve seen the last trailer of King Arthur , you’ve certainly found that Guy Ritchie adapted the Arthurian tale to his sauce ! This time, Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) must stand against Vortigern (Jude Law), his evil uncle, who murdered his father Uther Pendragon in order to seize the throne. To do this, he will first have to tame his inheritance, Which of course takes the form of the famous sword in the rock, and agrees to lead a group of rebels fiercely opposed to Vortigern. So as to tell you that the battle is going to be tough, especially since the latter possesses some magical abilities that make him an opponent more than formidable. So to wait until next Wednesday, the editor of Melty makes you a small list of three things you need to know about King Arthur before going to see him at the movies.
It is a history of origins
You will understand , King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur tells the story of Arthur’s origins and his struggle to recover his legacy. Raised in a brothel of Londinium, the young man has forgotten where he comes from and has no idea of the role that is his. Finally, until he finds himself forced to try to snatch Excalibur from his rock … That does not mean that he will immediately accept his new identity! So do not expect to see the Knights of the Round Table in the film or to attend the famous Holy Grail quest. No, King Arthur tells the very first chapter of the story of the eponymous character, exploring his evolution, from a little street thug to worthy sovereign of England . All in a very fantasy genre that will please fans of the Lord of the Rings . Be careful, as Charlie Hunnam teased, this king Arthur is different from the one we know!
David Beckham makes a cameo
And yes, the football star takes his first steps on the big screen . Well, he makes only a small appearance, a small cameo in a scene of great significance since it is the one where Arthur snatches the sword from his rock. If you will recognize it easily, it is clear that David Beckham had to undergo a few hours of makeup before he could play his scene. It must be said that he interprets briefly a character not frankly sympathetic, with the accent to cut with a knife … and who obviously does not expect his day turns into a nightmare. Anyway, David Beckham , who is a close friend of Guy Ritchie, apparently enjoyed the exercise and his collaboration with the director and Charlie Hunnam seems to have gone quite well!
Other movies could follow
When one evokes the legend of king Arthur, one speaks of course of Excalibur and the test of the sword in the rock. But we also think of the Knights of the Round Table, Guinevere and the quest for the Holy Grail, the struggle against the Saxons and Merlin . So, inevitably, there is enough to do! If King Arthur: The Legend of Excalibur meets the expected success, it will be expected that he will benefit from a sequel. Or two. In any case, Charlie Hunnam would have signed for several episodes, which could therefore tell the rest of the Arthurian legend. Because we must admit it, as much we adore Arthur, we would like to find such characters as Lancelot and Sir Gawain. It remains to be seen whether the results of the film at the box office will be good enough to allow other opus to see the light! Will you see the movie?
The post King Arthur: 3 things to know about the film with Charlie Hunnam first appeared on The Siver Times.

It is finally John Boyega, aka Finn in the new Star Wars trilogy, who will play the heroes in this new adventure against the terrible Kaiju . But if you were wondering why Charlie Hunnam did not resume his role as Jaeger’s super-pilot, the actor finally explained himself in an interview with Den of Geek. And it’s just a timetable story! Indeed, Charlie Hunnam had other projects in progress and he had to choose between slipping back into the skin of Raleigh for a second part or escaping from prison in the remake of Papillon in place of Steve McQueen At the time. ” Although it had poor results at the global box office, Pacific Rim was a huge success in China. Suddenly, the priority was therefore to make Pacific Rim: Uprising and they wanted to do it very, very quickly. Their planning has changed dramatically and maybe I could have done both, but at the time they were writing the script and they needed to know if I would be part of it or not, ” he said. Thus entrusted Charlie Hunnam.
And while Charlie Hunnam was preparing to choose, “reluctantly” , to replenish for Pacific Rim 2, the president of the production company Legendary, Thomas Tull, agreed to cancel the contract of the actor. “He said,” man, you were going to do this other movie and that’s where your heart is. I do not want you on the set if you’re not happy, so go make the other movie. “It was incredibly generous on his part ,” said Charlie Hunnam. In the end, the film did not lose out with John Boyega. With his main role in the new Star Wars trilogy, the latter has become a global star, which will not hurt the Pacific Rim saga. And then, if the latter is successful, A third film will be launched and then Charlie Hunnam will be in the game! Meanwhile, the latter will be found next month in The King Arthur, of which you can discover photos on melty. And you what do you think ?
The post Pacific Rim 2: Charlie Hunnam explains his absence first appeared on The Siver Times.

The two stars did not hide it, playing the scenes of sex between Christian Gray and Anastasia Steele was not of all rest. But Jamie Dornan, who has been filming Robin Hood , has won a lot by accepting to embody the businessman with a tortured past: his notoriety has exploded and his performance in the second part has been hailed by critics. The two first opus met a big box-office success and Fifty Shades Freed is highly anticipated . In a nutshell, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson made a risky bet, but they did. And it seems that Charlie Hunnam now has regrets. It will be recalled that, Actor of Sons of Anarchy was cast in 2013 to interpret Christian Gray, which had raised a wind of anger among the fans of the literary series. Charlie Hunnam did not correspond physically to the description that EL James made of the billionaire tortured, and the actor had been entitled to an avalanche of criticisms on the social networks. He finally gave up the role by invoking a planning problem, but today this decision leaves him a bitter taste … Actor had been entitled to an avalanche of criticisms on social networks. He finally gave up the role by invoking a planning problem, but today this decision leaves him a bitter taste … Actor had been entitled to an avalanche of criticisms on social networks. He finally gave up the role by invoking a planning problem, but today this decision leaves him a bitter taste …
Indeed Charlie Hunnam confided in an interview for Vanity Fair , and he gives details about what happened. The actor had agreed to shoot in Crimson Peak , the film of Guillermo del Toro, which was filming at the same time as that of Fifty Shades Of Gray , and he did not want to go back on his word: ” Everybody Said to me, ‘You’re crazy, Guillermo can cast someone else, do Fifty Shades instead.’ I replied ‘No, I can not, it’s my friend .’ A decision he regrets: “It was the worst professional experience of my life. This decision was destructive emotionally and it is the hardest thing I ‘ Have never had to do. That broke my heart . ” If Jamie Dornan was a dream partner for Dakota Johnson , Charlie Hunnam showed in Sons of Anarchy that he knew how to be very convincing about sex scenes. The wrong decision? What do you think of this story?
The post Jamie Dornan: Charlie Hunnam regrets having left him the role of Christian Gray first appeared on The Siver Times.
