And we speak of counterexamples, which serve as exceptions in an industry, still undermined by the problems of representativeness of minorities. But yes, whitewashing can also work upside down.
Will Smith => Robert Neville (I’m a Legend)
There are several adaptations of Richard Matheson’s novel SF. But the 2007 version is the first that sees a Black actor in the skin of the last survivor , alias the scientist Robert Neville.
Morgan Freeman => Red (The Evadés)
Again, in the original work of Stephen King (“The Redemption of Shawshank”) , the character in question is White . Even red-headed with freckles and blue eyes, considering his Irish origins.
With Chris Evans, we held more or less a human Torch physically faithful to the comics. The reboot “Fantastic Four” made the choice to innovate by granting the role of Johnny Storm to Michael B. Jordan.
Idris Elba => Heimdall (Thor)
He is the guardian of the Bifröst, the passage that connects Asgard with the other planets. Heimdall has two radically different faces according to the comics and MCU : in the first case, he has a big boom and is rather Viking, while it is Idris Elba who ensures the taf to the cinema.
Dwayne Johnson => Hercules
It will have escaped anyone that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is far from resembling the average Greek, let alone Hercules, despite his physical half-God.
Pam Grier => Jackie Brown
If Quentin Tarantino remained faithful enough to the original novel “Punch Creole” in his transcription of the characters, he allowed himself a little freedom as regards that embodied by Pam Grier : in the book, Jackie is White, with short hair And blond.
Will Smith => Agent J (Men in Black)
You ignore perhaps, but before being brought to the big screen, “Men in Black” is a comic book series of the 90’s , originally published by Aircel Comics, before falling in the Marvel catalog. And J as K, were two Caucasian characters. After the success of the film in 1997, Marvel released new issues, this time with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith headlining.
Michael Clarke Duncan => The Caïd (Daredevil)
For the coup, the series is a chouia more faithful to the comics in regards to the character of Wilson Fisk aka Le Caïd. In fact, the production of the film “Daredevil” has tried to enlist a white actor for the role of the godfather of Hell’s Kitchen , but the tests with different wrestlers proved inconclusive. And Michael Clarke Duncan took the opportunity.
Halle Berry => Catwoman
She is one of those lucid actresses who have trashed their own film . Halle Berry nevertheless marked the fans forever in his latex costume , despite the little resemblance to the original version of the comics.
Samuel L. Jackson => Nick Fury (The Avengers)
The story here is a little more complex than for the other examples. Originally, the SHIELD boss was one-eyed, but also white, with a nice gray-haired cut on the temples. But in the early 2000s, Marvel decides to reboot the character via the Ultimate arc, and wants to redesign it to the image of … Samuel L. Jackson . On learning the news, the actor’s agent threatens to file a complaint, before changing his mind. Samuel L. Jackson is indeed excited by the idea, to the point of negotiating a possible role to come on the big screen. He may not have both his eyes but he’s got pif!
The post Yes, it happens also that Hollywood choose actors “Blacks” for characters “Whites” first appeared on The Siver Times.

This is an old rule as the beginning of the MCU, in 2008, with the first Iron Man . But do you know where they came from? Well, it’s actually Kevin Feige , the president of Marvel Studios, who insisted on including them. In an interview with Slashfilm , the filmmaker explained that in his youth, as a “real geek of cinema” , he never wanted the film to end. “No matter whether the film is good or bad, I did not want the experience to stop there. So when I started making movies myself, I thought it would be fun to continue them after the end , “he said. And to explain in particular the first post-generic scene at the end of Iron Man: “We did not want to put Nick Fury in the film because it was thought that it would attract too much attention. So we thought we could put it at the very end of the credits, to reward people, like me child, for staying. ”
In reality, the post-generic scenes were not invented by the Marvel studios and have existed for a long time. The first date dates from 1903! Yes Yes ! At the end of The Great Train Robbery , one could see the main character coming back from the dead and pointing his gun at the audience. In the 1970s and 1980s, post-generic scenes became a major trend in theaters, with Like the Muppet and even Airplane! . But it is really the Marvel studios that have institutionalized them and they have become masters in the matter. The proof, in The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, there were nearly five post-generic scenes !
The post Thor Ragnarok: Kevin Feige explains the origin of the post-generic scenes first appeared on The Siver Times.

The character has already been introduced in Captain America Civil War and has proven to be a real hit with fans who are already looking forward to his first solo adventure. An adventure whose casting is mainly composed of black actors and actresses since the plot takes place mainly in Wakanda, a country located on the African continent. What could be more logical, then, than to find the character of Nick Fury played by Samuel L. Jackson ? In a We Got This Covered interview , the actor spoke of his possible return in Black Panther (whose official synopsis was unveiled).
Let the fans prepare the packet of handkerchiefs because Nick Fury will not be present in Black Panther ! A disappointment for those who hoped to see again this iconic character present since Iron Man . Of course, spectators will hope to find it in a post-generic scene but will obviously be outside the plot of Black Panther . This next Marvel movie will be the opportunity to introduce the biggest heroic meeting in the history of cinema: The Avengers 3 Infinity War, whose first video of the shoot was revealed . It was not until February 16, 2018, that Black Panther and his heroes came from Wakanda. What do you think ?
The post Black Panther: An emblematic character back? first appeared on The Siver Times.

Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, the feature films of the studio are raining and it works rather well. How is it, really? These photos give some information.
The guardians of the galaxy
Remember Groot? With the voice of Vin Diesel. What about Rocket Raccoon? With that of Bradley Cooper. And well on the set, it was other guys who recorded the movements and shoot the scenes . In this case Krystian Godlewski and Sean Gunn.
Thor: Ragnarok (released in 2017)
By the end of the year, you’ll see Chris Hemsworth again in Thor. Also stock! He will be accompanied by his brother Loki, played by actor Tom Hiddleston. And even in life, they are potos.
The Avengers
Mine of nothing is taff to play Hulk. For Mark Ruffalo, the first part of the job is to move, talk, with a suit full of sensors recording his movements and facial expressions. The second asks him to play scenes with fake huge arms , when interacting with other characters. From high-tech to whatever.
Iron Man 3
In the film, it looks easy, the costume comes to automatically gather around him, magnetically. Obviously, this is not the reality. On the set, Robert Downey Jr needs several members of the team to dress him. Even if he wanted and took the time, it is impossible to do it alone.
Captain America: Civil War
Enemies in the film, Spiderman and the Black Panther know how to make the difference. During a break from shooting the scene where they fight, the airport , the actors Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman arose tranquillou, side by side.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Towards the end of the film, there is a scene where Nick Fury is in his helicopter and fighting. No one, it is also accompanied by Scarlett Johansson, aka Black Widow . Helicopter, blower of wind to make move the beautiful hair of the miss, giant decoration in green behind … That’s the whole organization!
Iron Man
Remember when Tony Stark sees his second in his box turn against him? The famous Obadiah Stone, who wants to be even stronger than him and becomes Iron Monger. Well his suit weighed 360 kg and measured 3m high! And to move it during animatronic scenes, it took five people to move it! As for the aesthetics, pros were also there to put back shots of paint and guarantee a perfect shine. Who would like to go on a shoot?
The post The reverse side of Marvel movies in pictures first appeared on The Siver Times.
