It’s been a while since Season 7 of The Walking Dead – which we have been asked to review – is finished and it has been decided, now that we have a step back, to look at the different problematic elements of the series. First and foremost, we would like to point out that The Walking Dead remains a quality series that we like to watch, and you are free to tell us what you think about it in the comments below . However loving a series does not mean being blind on the negatives and there are very few series that have none. For the series of zombies that we are following now for 7 seasons, it is in particular some differences with its beginnings that we regret. The first thing we think is a problem, Conversational aspect of the series. For some time now, the characters have been talking only about essential and factual things. Everything revolves around survival and most dialogues can be summarized in “we do this to survive” or “that’s how things are now”.
The first seasons offered us more dialogues, debates between the characters – especially between Dale and Andrea – lighter and more “normal” sentences that made it easier for us to identify with the characters. How long has Rick had a real conversation with Carl? Season 7 has further accentuated the fact that most characters speak to the same people and the dynamism of the series suffers . The first seasons, which had a smaller but still important group, showed us more fluid conversations that allowed us to better understand the mood of the characters. In short, we would like The Walking Dead to actually speak his characters, sometimes even ” The Walking Dead sometimes becomes too much an imitation more than an adaptation and therefore lacks rhythm, explanation and fluidity. Obviously the plot is primordial but the mode of narration on television is not the same as in writing and where the reader is accustomed to fill the spaces between the boxes of a comic, the viewer would like to him A little more binder. Obviously the plot is primordial but the mode of narration on television is not the same as in writing and where the reader is accustomed to fill the spaces between the boxes of a comic, the viewer would like to him A little more binder.
The last episodes of Season 7 were a blatant example of the lack of coherence in the sense that many things went off screen to the point of making us ask if we had not missed scenes. The absence of Sasha’s arrival at the Sanctuary, the encounter between Rosita and Dwight, the start-up of Jadis or even a simple discussion between some members of Rick’s group after they saw that Ezekiel Had a tiger (!) Are all things that we would have liked to see on the screen. To leave a certain part of the “work” to the viewer is essential and allows us to continue to create the universe of the series that we love so much in our head . But one can not help but feel like a ” Have too many missing pieces in the puzzle. The balance between the plots and the characters seems to have suffered lately and it is hoped that they will return to the front of the stage to look a little more human.
Finally, the third thing that has been noticed concerns rather the form than the background. The Walking Dead remains a neat and beautiful series to watch, but Season 7 did not have the graphic look that was expected from the series. The plans seem less worked, the music is sometimes too ubiquitous and encroaches on characters who sometimes already too much in the background compared to the plot, and the magic of the first seasons is missing us a little. Again, to note certain changes – inevitable since it seems normal that a series evolves during the seasons – does not mean that one does not appreciate the series . On the contrary, as inveterate fans, one feels these things since one would like magic to work again, To meet before powerful and intense scenes saying “Damn, well played The Walking Dead” . And of course, the series had scenes like that and offered us beautiful things in the last few seasons. But the balance to be found in an adaptation is difficult and Season 7 simply gave us the impression that it had been even harder to find lately. While waiting to know if the series will return a little to its roots in the suite, you were offered a recap of all the dead of season 7 of The Walking Dead . And you what do you think ? An act of bravery! And yes the meltynauts, if we knew that the talented Sonequa Martin-Green was in danger of leaving the AMC flagship series since it was announced to the Star Trek Discovery cast , we had not imagined a single second that the character of Sasha would leave so heroically . But that’s not all, since this Season Finale was also the occasion for our fetish characters to finally pull back Negan. While Melty’s editor suggested discovering the cast’s confidences on Sasha’s unexpected death scene in Season 7 of The Walking Dead , let’s get back to the five key moments of the Season Finale.
The death of Sasha
If his disappearance should sadden the fans, they can at least be consoled with the beautiful exit door that the writers have reserved for him. Sasha has never let us down, and it took some bravery for her to take the famous poison of Eugene . Without the least weapon at her disposal to kill Negan, she decided to turn herself into a weapon. And even if it failed, it saved the life of Carl and the people of Alexandria. A heroic sacrifice that reminds us why we love The Walking Dead so much.
The Return of Abraham
If the scene was terribly painful to the heart as it played with our emotions and especially with the possibility that the strong man in the series could listen to Sasha instead of following Rick and moving towards her death she allowed us to see How much he loved Sasha. Much more serene than at the beginning, he had not lost his ardor or his courage. Two qualities that we also found happily with Sasha at the dawn of his death. More than ever, the shadow of Abraham and Glenn reigned over this episode when their vengeance finally began!
Dwight’s loyalty
Even if the fans of the comics knew that Dwight would decide to change camp, one can never be completely sure with the series. Fortunately, this Season Finale showed us that Dwight was on their side. With an Inside Man able to inform them of Negan’s smallest decisions, Rick and his allies can now concoct a plan much more serenely . Hopefully it will not get burned in the first episodes of season 8!
The Hill, The Kingdom and Alexandria united against Negan
We waited for that moment for the entire season. And it was perfect! Even if we do not quite understand how their timing can be as exceptional, this scene finally got the better of Negan’s eternal assurance. For the first time since the start of the season, it has receded against the strength of the three communities combined . A real happiness so much we were already emotionally reached by the death of Sasha and the betrayal of Jadis. Hopefully the pace will pick up in season 8.
The Tribute to Glenn
Maggie’s speech was as heart-rending as it was magnificent. So much has happened since the show’s first season that we sometimes forget that it’s Glenn’s decision to save Rick who started it all. Central and terribly human character, Glenn misses us enormously but he is saving to know that he will live eternally in Maggie and their child . He is the one who made our survivors a true family and we can never erase it from our memories. Waiting for more info, discover our review of episode 16 of season 7 of The Walking Dead on melty.
