And even if love and tolerance is good for the whole year, today we offer you a small list of some of the most emblematic LGBT characters on the small screen . Obviously it’s impossible to quote them all, do not hesitate to add your favorite LGBT characters in the comments!
Sophia Burset – Orange is the New Black
Interpreted by the talented Laverne Cox, Sophia Burset is a transgender character in Orange is the New Black that shows both confidence and vulnerability. Jenji Kohan made the right choice to cast a transgender actress to play his character and we can only thank him because it allowed us to discover the fantastic Laverne Cox . With her scathing replies and her big heart, Sophia quickly established herself among our favorite characters in the series.
Kurt Hummel – Glee
Difficult to talk about the iconic LGBT characters without mentioning the unforgettable Kurt Hummel even years after the end of Glee. Flamboyant, sensitive, creative and passionate, Kurt scored the small screens with his unique voice and ambition up to Rachel’s . We admit to you that the series and its scenarios completely burned do not miss us more than that, but as far as its characters is another story …
Willow Rosenberg – Buffy
After Xander and Oz, Willow finally found shoe to her foot with Tara and this for our greatest pleasure, although … here . And by being part of a cult series, one necessarily becomes one of the cult lesbians of the small screen . Well before many series, Buffy proposed a girlfriend to one of her heroines and we thank her for showing the way.
Titus Andromedon – Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Hey, hilarious, fan of Beyonce … Words to describe Titus Andromedon are not lacking but yet you are assured that the best way to get an idea is to go see him in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt . With his gates to die of laughter and his super advice for Kimmy, hard to find a character more striking than him.
Callie Torres – Gray’s Anatomy
Bisexual assumed, Callie Torres may have left Gray’s Anatomy but she has not left our hearts so far (snif) . A worthy representative of the “B” in LGBT, Callie will remain in history not only for being part of one of the most cult medical series on the small screen – yes, with Emergencies – but also for this replica no less cult.
Lexa – The 100
Unfortunately, Lexa did not last long in The 100. But the huge bad buzz that Jason Rothenberg picked up after his death is enough to put it on our list . Yes, because Lexa’s death did not just make thousands of fans cry, including us. It was not only followed by the creation of a site to raise awareness about the representation of LGBT in the series ( wederservedbetter.com ) but also a convention inspired by her couple formed with Clarke in the series. La Clexacon brought together dozens of celebrities to raise awareness about the performance on the small screen and elsewhere. That’s what we call legacy .
Jack Harkness – Torchwood
Pansexual assumed and hero of his own spin-off from the legendary Doctor Who series, Captain Jack Harkness has scored the small screen and hearts of fans forever. By making him a non-heterogeneous character, the screenwriters have made it a symbol for the LGBT community in the UK and, moreover, hard not to mention it.
Shane McCutcheon – The L Word
Looking very Shane today . Yes, when we talk about the LGBT characters who have scored the small screen, the heroine androgynous The L Word is a bit impossible to circumvent . So confident in her that she becomes irresistible for all her conquests, we confess that what we like most about Shane is her unlimited loyalty and her sense of friendship.
Here is a small non-exhaustive list of some of the LGBT characters who have scored the small screen. Even though many names still come to mind (Annalize Keating, Santana Lopez, Nomi Marks, Oberyn Martell and so on), we do not forget that the LGBT community is still largely underrepresented in the series and we hope Although things will end up changing! What do you think LGBT characters have marked you?
The post The most iconic LGBT characters on the small screen first appeared on The Siver Times.

The series is like everything, sometimes we must persevere a little to discover their true value …
Sometimes when you watch a series, the magic operates from the first minutes and we find ourselves wanting to watch the barely finished pilot … And sometimes it’s a little the opposite, the first episode is slow, the characters are not Not very endearing, in short, we do not catch what. And yet, behind a failed driver often hide little nuggets next to which we almost passed . Many comedies are in this category since, typically, they are series based mainly on the characters, on their alchemy and their humor rather than on a thrilling plot. And it’s hard to appreciate them without attaching a minimum to them and finding them nice to laugh at their jokes, but it’s a complicated exercise in an episode, especially when it only lasts for about thirty minutes.
The Office US
A excellent series sometimes corresponds to a mediocre driver. Too close to the UK version, the very first episode of The Office presents us a Michael Scott heavy and not very funny ( if it changes in the sequel ) with jokes falling flat . Add to this some characters who do not always feel comfortable – like Dwight – and you get an episode that does not really want to watch next . And yet, after a difficult season, it is only happiness.
The 100
The apocalyptic shows also have their failures. With its plot inspired by Kass Morgan’s books, The 100 had a good foundation but introduced us in a clumsy way to a universe not always coherent and especially to cliché characters as possible. Teenagers stereotyped and unbearable, dialogues flat and predictable … Everything was combined to flee this series . Yet after the pilot, but especially after the first half of season 1, the characters evolve – and reflect – and the plot catches us up, phew.
Agents of SHIELD
We adore Phil Coulson and the whole world of the Avengers, difficult to hang on to the pilot of Agents of SHIELD. And for good reason, between his intrigue a little too already seen and his characters too smooth, the pilot is certainly not the best episode of the series . All categorized in a rigid role, May, Jemma, Fitz, Phil and the others are far from expressing their potential that one ends up discovering in the following episodes and this for our greatest happiness.
The L Word
It must be admitted that the pilot of The L Word plunges us directly into the mood, but perhaps a little too directly justly. Bette, Tina, Alice, Shane and all the little lesbian group in Los Angeles do not take tweezers and are almost more graphic than most episodes . Moreover, to see all this from the point of view of the ingenious Jenny who discovers this world by opening his eyes is a little cliché and does not honor a series that shows much more subtlety and complexity in the sequel.
Parks and Recreation
Like many comedies, the pilot of Parks and Rec is not really a success and has difficulty to seduce us with his clumsy characters and her atypical heroine. Leslie Knope is not shown in her best light and it will take a few episodes before realizing her charisma and intelligence . Season 1 is not the best but the rest of the series shows us the real source of inspiration that is Leslie, surrounded by a team as endearing as funny.
To these series which have not been helped by their pilot one can also add How I Met Your Mother with his laughs recorded which has passed as a pale copy of FRIENDS , or even FRIENDS herself who had not Quite seduced the critics at the time. Seinfeld suffered the same fate, as did 30Rock and his rough pilot. In short, we do not always succeed all at once, but it is not a reason to give up, a beautiful lesson that works both in life and for series! And you, which pilots did not convince you?
The post The first episode is bof but these series are worth gold first appeared on The Siver Times.

Representation is good. Good performance is better! A short guide to LGBT friendly series that do good.
Representation is a concept that looks simple enough but that, apparently, is always as hard to apply for some showrunners. As they say, it takes everything to make a world and see lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters in the series, it always brings a certain touch of realism and open-mindedness some of whom would do well to take inspiration . Yes, the series with straight white men in lead is nice, but it feels good to see something else also not? We propose you a small list of LGBT friendly series in which the representation is not only there, but more importantly, realistic or happy or better: the 3 at the same time.
Gray’s Anatomy
In Gray’s Anatomy , everyone is treated the same way and that is his strength. Airplane accident, amputation, car accident, risky childbirth and other horrors that the fans know well … The characters can be straight, bi, gay or other, Shonda Rhimes does not give anybody a gift and it’s nice to see – finally Way of speaking . Yes, via Callie, Arizona or even couples of patients of the same kind, the series shows us that it is possible not to define its characters by their sexual orientation , without passing it over in silence. Thanks Shonda!
The L Word
Everything is in the title but since the word is still a bit scary today, it is said with you: lesbian – but it also works for love, lust and other themes according to the interpretation of each . Completed for several years – is also expected over – The L Word we sometimes delves with great detail in circles lesbians in Los Angeles with Bette, Tina, Alice, Shane, Dana and others. But that’s not all, as Max, a transgender person, also plays an important role in showing us some of the difficulties transgender people face. Despite a lot of clichés and stereotypes sometimes annoying, The L Word is above all a way to immerse completely in a world where ”
Faking It
Faking It is proof that MTV can do very good with not much. Small (and talented) casting, simple story, original pitch of departure and teenagers endearing: this is the recipe for the success of the series which ended in 2016 . With Amy discovering her bisexuality and her nascent love for her BFF while rejecting the labels, Shane who assumes her colorful homosexuality, Lauren who educates on her intersexuality and Noah, discreet transgender, the representation there is at the top and all delicacy. In short, it is only pleasure.
Transparent
Despite a major negative point since the transgender character of the series is not a transgender actress, Transparent remains a small nugget to be enjoyed with pleasure. His freed and sometimes a bit crazy characters have something out of the ordinary and show that there is really no shame in being a different hair.
Looking
All the good things have an end but Looking’s was perhaps a little too premature and this is his biggest flaw. With Jonathan Groff charming as Patrick as possible , Looking takes us on a tour of the gay community of San Francisco and his love dramas, mixing humor and touching scenes.
sense8
One only has to look at a few episodes to realize that Sense8 is THE definition of self-acceptance and love for all . Tolerance and solidarity are at the heart of the Netflix series and there is nothing to say, nothing to see the sensates pick up with a single voice “What’s Up” to warm your heart on days of great sorrow ( And the others). All we have to do is to hope that, like them, we all one day come to put our differences aside and retain only the essential. Yes, we can always dream …
Obviously these are not the only series that include LGBT characters in their stories in an adroit way since Queer as Folk is also a cult of the genre, How to Get Away with Murder proves that network chains can show a lot if the will is there . And Shameless US , Orange is the New Black , Wynonna Earp and others still extend the list, do not hesitate to share your favorites! So, what do you think ?
The post The series with a good LGBT representation is here first appeared on The Siver Times.
