SAINTE-ANNE-DES-MONTS – The museum, Exploramer in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, in the Gaspé region, receives financial assistance of $ 880,000 from the government of Quebec, money that will allow him finally to envision a longer-term future.
After years of financial uncertainty, the most visited museum in the Gaspé peninsula receives more than a short-term assistance.
Québec allocates first 430 000 $ for the development of a water intake of sea, essential for its aquariums showcasing the marine species of the St. Lawrence river. The work is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.
The City of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts also contributed to the project, adding an amount of 45 000 $.
Exploramer also receives an amount of $ 450,000 in order to comply with a new certification for all museums of a scientific nature in the province. This will open the door to a recurrent funding in the long term, and claimed its director general for a dozen years.
“Listen, this is an announcement that we were waiting for a very long time. It allows us to jump both feet into ocean science, which are our primary mission,” explained Sandra Gauthier, the director-general Exploramer.
Some 27 000 people have visited Exploramer in 2017. We expected as much for the 23rd season of the musée de Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, which will be launched on 2 June next.
