The american citizens have 310 million of the 650 million firearms owned by civilians across the world, according to the swiss Small Arms Survey.

In comparison, the population of India, which comes second on this list, has only 46 million firearms, so that it is almost four times more numerous than that of the United States, noted CNN in a compilation of statistics regarding firearms.

One-third of mass shootings, like the one that occurred Wednesday in a school in Florida, registered in the world happen in the United States, while the population of the country represents only 5 % of that of the world. Moreover, the rate of homicide by firearm is 25 times higher among the Americans than among the population in developed countries. This rate is, however, much more alarming in central America and South America.

Finally, since the slaughter of the past week, at least twelve incidents of threats or the presence of students armed in schools in the united states have been reported to the authorities, according to CNN. Two of these incidents took place in Florida.
