Contrary to what is argued in previous studies, high-level cyclists, who spend many hours a week in the saddle on their bike are not likely to suffer significant erection problems or urinary tract, shows a new research conducted in California.
In recent years, different studies showed that travel hundreds of miles per week in cycling could cause erectile dysfunction problems. One of these research showed that 21 cyclists norwegians on 160 (13 %) who had taken part in a course of 540 miles had developed a problem of erectile. The dysfunction had persisted for one week for half of them.
The new study conducted in the United States is based on a sample that is much more important of a few thousands of cyclists, runners and swimmers. In analyzing the results of each of these groups, the researchers determined that there are no statistically significant differences between the different sports in terms of erectile dysfunction.
However, cyclists who swallow the miles by the hundreds are more likely to suffer from numbness in the perineum, which may result in a flow of urine weaker, noted the authors of the study.
“Erectile problems transients can occur in cyclists men after very long journey. There are bicycle carriers, which are manufactured so as to decrease the pressure on the perineum,” explained the professor Benjamin Breyer of the University of California at San Francisco, the “Guardian”. However, land of the saddle from time to time for a little walk could help prevent the development of problems.
“Sit on the couch or spend eight hours in front of a computer every day is worse for your health, sexual or general”, has qualified Mr. Breyer, who noted that the physiological benefits of cycling outweigh the disadvantages.
