Four months in prison for having beaten to death a puppy

DUNCAN, b.c.- A man from British Columbia has been sentenced to four months in prison for having beaten to death a puppy at the age of 16 weeks.

The dog Robert Carolan, a resident of Duncan, had already suffered many painful injuries before dying. A necropsy performed on the body of the puppy had determined that it had been struck violently to the head and ribs, probably more than once.

The dog died of a pneumothorax caused by blows, which caused a lung collapse, was explained to the SPCA of British Columbia in a press release.

The necropsy also determined that the dog had suffered fractures to three ribs, which had healed with time.

The owner of the animal had tried to explain his death by claiming to have placed the puppy in the bath, before going out to smoke a cigarette. According to him, the animal was drowned. The man did not, however, provided no explanation for the injuries identified on the body of the animal.

“I consider that a prison sentence is appropriate for a case so cruel. It breaks heart to imagine the suffering and terror that have happened to this poor puppy before succumbing to his injuries,” said Marcie Moriarty, the head of the prevention and law enforcement for the SPCA of British Columbia.

In addition to serving the time behind bars, Robert Carolan will have to spend three years on probation and pay a $ 100 fine. He is also forbidden from owning an animal for the next 10 years.
