A relative of the guy Raynald Desjardins will not prevent his trial in the face of serious charges of conspiracy and importation of 15 tons of hashish in Montreal.
Well come to decide that the three judges of the Court of appeal in the matter of Alain Charron, 69, of Shawinigan (secteur Grand-Mère).
The sexagenarian, who was known to the police officers when he was part of the famous clan Dubois, in the 1970s, had been arrested in 2012 at the end of a survey project conducted by the royal Canadian mounted police and it is called Celsius.
In addition, the federal police had intercepted three containers arrived in Montreal from Pakistan, and containing more than 15 tonnes of cannabis resin, a drug commonly known as hashish.
Four accused in this case were quickly convicted in this folder, the details of which, however, remain subject to a publication ban.
This is not until 2015 that Alain Charron has been summoned to trial by the judge Marie-Josée Di Lallo, of the Court of Québec, at the end of a preliminary inquiry, which had lasted for 10 days.
Sufficient evidence
He then challenged this decision before the superior Court, in arguing that there was in his opinion “a total absence of evidence” that would suggest that he had dipped in this plot. In vain.
He then carried his cause before the Court of appeal, the highest court of Quebec dismissed, in turn, last Friday.
The three judges who have analyzed the case believe that the judge Di Lallo had examined “carefully and in detail” the evidence presented. They come to the conclusion that the trial judge had committed “no reversible error” in holding that there was sufficient evidence to support the charges.
Last July, the sexagenarian had had more luck when the Court of Québec has freed of the charges against him in another case import of drug, also in Montreal, because the evidence amassed against him was this time to be insufficient.
Charron is considered by the police as a relative of the guy mobster Raynald Desjardins, who is still in jail for plotting the murder of the aspiring godfather Salvatore Montagna.
Charron had some of the 220 guests at the wedding of the daughter of Desjardins at the golf club Le Mirage, in Terrebonne, in October 2011.
