Magnetic storm on Earth, which began on the morning of 27 February, called coronal hole on the Sun, according to laboratory x-ray astronomy of the Sun LPI, reports Rus.Media.

“The amplitude of the perturbation field for the past 10 hours has grown more than 10 times with 5-10 70-100 nTl to nTl. On a scale of geomagnetic activity, which has 10 levels, ranging from 0 to 9, the index of the field perturbations Kp during this time increased from a value of 1 was at 23:00 Kyiv time on February 26 to Kp=3 at around 2 a.m. on February 27, then Kp=4 at about 5 am and about 8 am in Kiev has already reached the level of Kp=5, which is classified as a magnetic storm,” – said in the message.

The growth of magnetic field perturbations associated with the appearance of extensive coronal hole directly in the center of the visible solar disk, that is directly on the line connecting the Sun and the Earth. Under coronal hole refers to the darker area of the crown that has a lower luminance compared to the surrounding areas. Such areas are clearly seen in the images of the Sun coming from space. Reduced the brightness of coronal holes associated with a massive release of plasma from these areas of the corona into interplanetary space. The ejected plasma has high speed and forms a high speed stream upon contact with the planet to cause a noticeable perturbation of its magnetic field up to magnetic storms.

Was the storm is the fourth this year. The first storm of 2018 was registered on 14 January, two 19 and 23 Feb. As scholars have noted, this year’s storms is recorded on average once in two weeks less than in 2017, when such events were recorded every six days.
