The hell of prostitution is a dark reality for those who find themselves in this universe and are quickly swept up in a world controlled by pimps. The police decided to fight a battle without thank you.

Quebec has changed it’s been almost a year its strategy to combat traffickers who move with their victims from one city to another in the province for not getting caught.

The integrated team of struggle against prostitution is coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec and 25 people, including investigators from several police agencies, who work there. This is the same kind of squad that fights the bikers and the mafia.

According to information obtained by TVA Nouvelles, this team has allowed the past 11 months to arrest of 31 traffickers, four of which are women. 200 charges have been brought, of which 52 of pimping, and 13 of the trafficking in persons.

To more effectively combat traffickers who move around from city to city, a provincial bank information has been created.

“We speak of information and one speaks of co-ordination. A coordination of different sources of information. Whether it’s police, whether it is reporting at the level of the DYP, either at the level of information that one receives in youth centres on returns of runaways,” explains Michel Bourque, commander of the SPVM.

In 2017, the SPVM arrested a record number of 65 pimps. In 2016, there have been 46 arrests on the island of Montreal. During this time in Montreal, there is growing concern over the exploitation of adolescent girls and young women who arrive from the reserves a little bit everywhere in Quebec.

“There’s a lot of pimps who are almost 24 hours a day at bus stops or close to airports to wait for these victims, said Diane Veillette, police SPVM. I mean, for a pimp, it is sellable, it has a great value for a person like that and they are so vulnerable. They tend to trust everyone.”

The police are certain they could do more. However, they say they need stricter laws, but especially of the more severe penalties for pimps.
