About 150 soldiers are deployed to Drummondville in these days to participate in an exercise designed to simulate the attack and defense of an airport.
Wednesday, to 14 pm, a contingent of military arrived at the airport, in order to repel a second group that attacked the places. The objective of the first group was pushing the second one far enough away to regain control of the airport and secure it.
These exercises aim to improve the skills of the military by comparing them to different environments and different conditions. “Here, there is a surprise effect because it is located in the open air. It is also necessary to consider the weather conditions; there is the snow, the cold, the hot,” explained Nadine Abou Rjeily, officer in development of public affairs for the canadian armed Forces.
“We are already arrived in the area during the ice storm, but it allows our young people to become familiar with the terrain and understand the roads,” said colonel Christian Mercier.
The military are deployed on the ground since Monday and will remain there until the end of the week.
