The Hubble telescope looked at the famous “Eye of Sauron” and found that it’s more like a boomerang, and the system is more complex than previously thought, reports Rus.Media.

A double star system HR 4796 a spectacular sight, reminiscent of the evil “Eye of Sauron” from the trilogy “the Lord of the rings”, the images widely known.

“Pupil” of the system forms a normal young star HR 4796А, twice more than the Sun and 20 times brighter protoplanetny surrounded by a dense disk of dust with a radius of 2 times as large as the orbit of Pluto. The second member of the tandem, located about 220 light years, red dwarf HR 4796В.

Terrible red shade system adds a large number tolv, the mixture of organic substances formed from methane and other simple hydrocarbons under the influence of ultraviolet radiation (toldi give a red color, for example, and some areas of Pluto).

However, new observations of HR 4796, conducted using the Hubble space telescope showed that the system have and more, and more complex than previously thought.

In an article published in The Astronomical Journal, astronomer from the University of Arizona, Glenn Schneider and his co-authors write: “the resulting images clearly indicate that dust ring is included more morphologically complex structures.”

On the obtained images shows that the “eye” is rather like a boomerang with a size of about 250 billion km – long elongated shoulder formed by the shock wave curve in the center and a second, short, shoulder, suddenly ends.

It is unclear what precisely gave the system of such an unusual and complex structure, although it is likely that this occurred under the influence of “dark horse”, the second companion system: the attraction of a red dwarf star HR 4796B could deform the dust in HR 4796A education. In fact, according to Glenn Schneider, it is impossible to consider such dust systems in isolation from their immediate environment.

“Interaction with the interstellar medium and the forces acting from the neighboring stars can have far-reaching consequences in the evolution of such systems”, – concludes the scientist.
