Fines of nearly $ 1.7 million for 10 smugglers of tobacco

Convicted of offences related to the smuggling of tobacco, ten people were recently sentenced by the court to pay fines totalling nearly $ 1.7 million in delays ranging between two and four months, announced on Monday Revenu Québec.

“These people are notably criticized to have sold, delivered or had in their possession of tobacco intended for retail sale in Québec and that the package was not identified in accordance with the Act relating to the tobacco tax,” said Revenue Quebec said in a statement.

Fine, more salt has been awarded to Michel Beauchamp in Saint-Jérôme. In addition to the 303 965 $ that he must reimburse the state within the next two months, the smuggler has also been sentenced to a term of imprisonment of four months. In the case of Beauchamp, he was a fourth conviction in relation to contraband tobacco.

Yannick Sirois-Mercier, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Joey Golding, Saint-Jérôme, Sébastien Barbas-Leduc, L’île-Perrot and Kevin Reeeves-Bombardier, Saint-Anicet, Léo Dandurand, of Ormstown, Leo Lefebvre of Huntingdon and Sebastien Coursol, Saint-Zotique, will each pay fines ranging from 72 893,20$ 244 722 $ within the next four months.

Finally, Guy, Vandal, Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré and Rita Paradis, Victoriaville, have been sentenced by the court to fines of respective 64-546 and $ 57 543 $, payable within two months.

Revenu Québec is reminding the public that “persons engaged in commercial activities related to tobacco products must hold the licences required by law to manufacture, import, transport, store or sell in the wholesale of tobacco products”.
