A man of Saint-Eustache has been sentenced to more than three years of detention for having lit seven fires in nine months in the city where he resides.

Between April and December 2017, Samuel Aubin has set fire to everything that came to hand.

Waste container, greenhouse, flowers, cars, chemical toilet and garage sales : the man, 27-year-old has cut a lot of things to ashes, causing damage estimated at more than $ 150,000. It has also caused mischief on a bike.

    Lives in danger

Each time, Aubin had consumed drugs, said on Monday his counsel, mr. Carl Ouimet, at the palais de justice in Saint-Jérôme.

The arsonist has put many people’s lives in danger by setting fire to a vehicle parked near a residential building in Saint-Eustache.

He pleaded guilty to the lot of the accusations leveled against him Monday, as well as a chief possession of methamphetamine. He had 18 pills on him during his arrest last December.

Asked to explain, the accused was said to have done so by impulsivity.

“Otherwise, it’s the drugs, I have no other motive “, he said before being sentenced to 40 months in prison.

    Fire and drug

“I have a bit of difficulty to make the link between the consumption of drugs and put out the fire. If there are no explanations, it becomes disturbing, ” said judge Carol Richer.

The cause of his girlfriend Maryann Touchette, who was accompanying him during the fires, is still pending.
