Company in Maryland moving slowly and steadily for 20 years to a very ambitious goal – to turn Windows into transparent solar panels that collect solar energy, informs news, Ukrmedia.

SolarWindow Technologies is one of the many energy companies that are looking for ways to collect solar energy in large quantities.

SolarWindow offers to turn Windows into solar panels by using a thin transparent coating applied to standard window glass.

The coating can not give a lot of energy, if applied to one window of your living room, but it’s not the aim.

The company hopes to use this technology in glass houses to produce energy from the acres of glass that absorbs the sun’s rays.

SolarWindow technology is patented. Here’s its essence: the developed liquid “organic photovoltaic solar grid” (OPV), made from a mixture of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, which can be pasted on the transparent surface.

The liquid coating forms a ultra-small solar cells in groups or arrays. Sunlight passing through these arrays, generates an electrical charge. Then the electric charge is collected on a grid of very thin wires, each thinner than a human hair.

Wires transmit the current to a larger output wire that connects to any existing power system, as well as in traditional solar panels. To generate maximum power transparent coating is applied several times on a glass or plastic surface.

The company’s product has been under development for almost 20 years, but has not yet entered the market.

SolarWindow is not the only company that deals with the technology of the solar panels.

California startup Ubiquitous Energy is working on a system that collects the light, invisible to human eyes – infrared and ultraviolet.

Last year Elon Musk has unveiled his decision – SolarCity, which includes solar panels on the roof of tempered glass.
