Terrorist attack in Quebec City: identified suspects

Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir are the two suspects arrested following the terrorist attack that left six dead on Sunday at the Center culturel Islamique de Québec.

Charges could be filed during the day. The two men in their late twenties and early thirties do not have a criminal record, according to police authorities.

The police for the moment refuse to comment on the motives of the suspects. The type of weapon used during the shooting was also not confirmed.

Some 200 policemen from the Sûreté du Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Quebec City police and the Montreal police are still investigating the shootings on Sunday night.

The attack resulted in six dead and five seriously wounded, who are in critical condition. About fifteen people were injured more lightly.

“It is the entire population of Quebec City that was targeted last night,” said Inspector Denis Turcotte, of the criminal investigations of the Quebec City Police Department.

All the mosques on the territory of the province and the Université Laval campus have been monitored more closely since the events.
