The spiritual leader of the jewish sect ultraorthodoxe Lev Tahor, rabbi Shlomo Erez Helbrans, is drowned to death Friday in Mexico.

The religious 55-year-old was swept away by the current of the river of Shujubal when he participated in a ceremony of purification by water during the day of Shabbat, reports the daily Diaro de Chiapas.

His body was found a little later by the civil protection of the State of Chiapas.

The members of Lev Tahor settled in this region of Mexico a few weeks ago after being deported from Guatemala, where they lived since 2013.
