A young woman from Quebec passionate outdoor is dead after a fall from thirty meters in a park of British Columbia.
Andrée Banville, 23 years old, was part of a hike with two friends in mount Gimli, in the provincial park Valhalla, Tuesday afternoon.
In circumstances that remain unexplained, the young woman fell of a cliff when she was almost arriving at the summit.
“A witness went down the cliff to offer help, while the other has traveled 2.5 miles to reach the emergency services “, said corporal Dan Moskaluk, spokesman for the RCMP.
A research team has been deployed to the scene in a helicopter to transport Andrée Banville as quickly as possible to the hospital. It took a few hours before locating his body. However, upon their arrival, it was already too late.
Traveler
The great traveller had settled in Nelson, in the south-east of the province, in January this year, after having completed his studies.
“She went before and she had fallen in love with the landscapes of this city,” said Richard Banville, the father of the victim.
The graduate in psychology from the University of Laval had also got a job as a counsellor in a community-based organization of the place.
According to her family, she maintained a passion without end for everything that had to do with the outdoor.
“Ray of sunshine “
She loved biking, hiking, and camping. She was also passionate about travel, and had made several, including with his twin brother. She had the intention of traveling to new destinations this summer and continue his route towards the west in the winter to ski in the mountains. All her loved ones describe her as a true “ray of sunshine” who constantly had a smile on his lips.
“It was my twin, so we were really close, said his sister. It was a huge joy to live, especially in the last few months because she loved her job and where she lived. “
The parents and sister of Andrée Banville leave Quebec on Friday to join the brothers of the victim in Vancouver. The family will then head to Nelson. They will decide if they wish to repatriate his body or his ashes for the funeral.
An autopsy will be performed on the body of the young woman. The RCMP has indicated that there was no criminal element in the folder and that it was only a sad accident.
