Children stolen are given new vegetables to their garden

SAINT-AMBROISE-DE-KILDARE| The 400 children at a primary school in the Lanaudière region have received a lot of beautiful plants vegetables to replace the ones that they are actually flying in their collective garden.

The students of école Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix were able to fill the holes in their garden on Thursday evening, thanks to the gift of fifty plants offered by a garden centre in the region.

It was even more than what they were stealing, or breaking.

They had celery, bell peppers, lots of colors and sizes, fine herbs and potatoes.

“They put potatoes, blue sweet potatoes, things that are out of the ordinary and will appeal to children. It was our way to bring a little balm on what happened,” explains Joëlle Venne, co-owner of Gardens Gourmants, which provided the seedlings.

The students were stealing vegetables and vandalizing their collective garden earlier this summer, which has aroused the indignation of the population in the wake of the revelation of this story in The Newspaper of Wednesday.

They were very happy to be able to replant Thursday evening, in the course of a business, parent-child, in the company of Jasmine Lafortune, aka Mr. Garden, who oversees the activity.

“They understand that there are people less friendly, but they do understand that there are also generous people on this planet, that we must not lower the arms,” says the facilitator.

The latter was amazed of the outpouring of solidarity in the municipality.

Citizens have called to say not to let go, others have donated seeds, they were even offered other plots of land where to plant to make it more difficult to fly.

“One of the first things that we did at day camp this morning is to discuss this wave of solidarity”, explains Jasmine Lafortune.

Primary school

Each spring, the students of école Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix plant more than twenty kinds of vegetables in their garden, 80 feet by 25 feet.

Young people’s day camp maintain it during the summer and have snacks, and then in the fall the vegetables are harvested to keep kitchen activities at the school.

Children will make recipes such as dips, chips and bruschetta.

However, for the past three years, of the unscrupulous people come to steal vegetables, or even break the work of the children.

Mr. Garden believed that the media coverage of the case could calm down the game.

“It must be awkward for a thief to come and steal now, knowing that everyone loves our garden at this point”, he says.
