The infestation of mice in the restaurant Tsak-Tsak was so severe that an inspector found a bag with potatoes eaten.

“A dead mouse was caught in a trap and excrement littered the surface “, noted by an inspector during his visit of November 9, 2015.

The restaurant for breakfast, located in 280 rue Beaubien est in Montreal, has received a fine of $ 1,250 in may to an infestation of mice recorded in the fall of 2015.

“I had reason to believe that there was an imminent danger to the life or health of consumers “, has registered the inspector in his report.

    Temporary closure

The trade has therefore received an order to cease operations for several days in November 2015.

The droppings were in several locations : on the shelf of the microwave oven, on a work table, near a fryer, on the floor behind the oven and under the counter of the bar.

“Droppings were found in a plastic bin that had potatoes […] Between the bags of potatoes, there was a lot of feces. “

The inspector had also noted some violations a month earlier. In addition to the presence of droppings of mice on rice bags, shelves and on the floor, the fruit flies were in a part of the kitchen, one can read in the September report.

In addition, the temperature of a refrigerator containing eggs was 10 °C, while the standards of the ministry of Food (MAPAQ) require that the food be kept at 4 °C or less. The inspector also noticed spatter on the wall adjacent to the work table in the section of preparation of pancakes and shakes.

    Improvement

The inspectors have, however, underlined the efforts of the restorative in their following reports.

“The situation is better, and in spite of the droppings in the basement, the operator is in control,” they wrote in December 2015.

An inspector has again found droppings from mice in the storage section in April 2016. “The situation is in control now. See to the maintenance of your vigilance “, he, however, qualify.

“The problem is no longer present since a very long time,” says the owner, Riana Miarantsoa.

“It is our duty to close all the openings [in the walls]. It always does that. Now, there is no problem “, she explains.

It is necessary to wait several months after an offence for a judge to hear the case and make its award. The details of these judgments have been obtained as the result of a request for access to information.
