Fire crews scattered in British Columbia expecting the worst on Saturday afternoon for the following hours while the weather conditions led to the assumption that new evacuations could be necessary.
More than 3,000 firefighters fought the 167 forest fires that burned always, Saturday, across the province, reported the Global network News. Teams from the Vancouver area have been sent in reinforcement.
So far, over 16 000 persons were evacuated, while 4000 families benefit from the support of the Red Cross.
The storms and high winds forecasted for this weekend on the province could fuel forest fires and to increase substantially the number of evacuees. The Service to fight the forest fires in the province is also planning wind gusts approaching 70 km/h.
The authorities warned the residents of the Cariboo region and the center of the province to stand ready to leave their home.
The threat is likely to persist into early next week. In fact, according to Environment Canada, the next five days promise to be hot and dry in British Columbia. The conditions are so conducive to the spread of the flames.
