The Riverside school board is outraged that construction contractors got rid of books to a school in the applicant, without authorization, on a plot of Saint-Hyacinthe.
“There is really not happy. He is as outraged as those who discovered the spill, ” says Sylvain Racette, director general of the Riverside school board.
The Newspaper published on Saturday a series of photos showing a buildup of construction materials of yellow bags filled with materials and furniture dumped on a field near the airport in Saint-Hyacinthe.
Among these debris were including books for children bearing the label of the elementary school Mountainview Otterburn Park, located near Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
Mr. Racette confirms that these books were from the school in question because of the current work require you to move around in a room where there were books.
The school board had hired the company Tuyauterie Michel K et Denis to renovate the sanitary blocks and the ceilings in the school Mountainview. “They told us that it was the fault of a subcontractor. But we told them that we were interested not : it is with them that we have done a deal, ” insists Mr. Racette.
“Amateurism “
“It’s amateurism. I find it unbecoming of someone who works with the public. […] And we are working to raise children’s awareness of the environment “, longs to point out the irony of the situation.
The document of the tender also stipulates that ” [the contractor] shall take, at its expense, all necessary precautions for the protection of the environment, streets, parks and surrounding land, and take all the necessary measures to prevent any form of pollution “.
“It is sorry. Measures have been taken. It was asked that this be picked up quickly, ” says Mr. Racette.
Contacted by The Newspaper, the head of Piping Michel K et Denis, Michel Karaoulanis, confirms that this is indeed the company Demofix that proceeded the filing of the wild.
A container bearing the name of this company was laid in the grounds of the school Mountainview last Thursday.
Eric Lemieux, co-owner of Demofix, explains that the filing of a wild is the work of a single employee.
The latter would have preferred to drop off the waste at this place to finish the day sooner without having to wait for the sorting.
“The next day I fired my driver and we went to pick up the waste,” he explains, adding that his company has also picked up on the ground of waste that were not his own.
No survey
As to the City of Saint-Hyacinthe, it confirmed on Thursday that he was filing ” wild “, but that it had no intention of seeking the guilty because the field has already been cleaned.
“I find it deplorable that the City tolerates it. […] It is not a dump, ” responded Friday Gabriel Chartier, the owner of the airport. “It is as if one said “come and bring your shit to Saint-Hyacinthe. If you do pick up but that you pick up, you will not have a fine” “, quips he.
