The Islamic Cultural Centre of Québec (CCIQ) believes that the outcome of the referendum, which prevented the project of a muslim cemetery in Saint-Apollinaire, confirms that “fear and ignorance are still there stronger than before”.

“This 19 against, came to refuse to write a beautiful page in the history of Quebec and Canada in the advent of the “living together”, one can read in a press release issued by the committee in charge of the cemetery, within the CCIQ.
The committee also confirmed its desire to pursue its efforts to force the municipality to go ahead, despite the vote of Sunday.
According to the community, that result “reinforces the denial of a significant fraction of the society because she is muslim”.
