MONTREAL – The former owner of the shops Vaporium was commenced three weeks ago, a further $ 27.8 million against the federal government.

The request for damages and interest filed with the clerk of the superior Court of Quebec in Montreal by Sylvain Longpré seeks the Attorney-general of Canada, Health Canada, and the Canada border services Agency of Canada.

A pioneer in the electronic cigarette in Quebec, Sylvain Longpré had three stores and operated a laboratory for the production of e-liquid.

At the time of the seizure and searches in June 2014, its businesses, the Vaporium, and VaperZ, were in full swing.

Mr. Longpré was a leader in its domain and distributes its products to several competitors.

    Damage to its reputation

Sylvain Longpré claims that since the searches and the filing of charges, he has been unable to stay in business. Its reputation towards its customers who have been tainted, he has been forced to cease its activities in April 2016.

The committee also regrets that since its involvement, no other company of electronic cigarettes has not been affected or inconvenienced by the federal agents.

Over a period of eight months in 2013 and 2014, Sylvain Longpré would have tried to smuggle about 500 kilos of liquid nicotine from the United States. His criminal trial, for which thirty witnesses must be heard, will be held from 5 December 2017 at the palais de justice de Sherbrooke.

Sylvain Longpré has always claimed that the liquid nicotine in its raw state was not in breach of the regulations on food and drugs. The final product used in the electronic cigarettes comply with the standards in force.

According to him, the $ 27.8 million claimed in the course of the civil action are not exaggerated, and would be equivalent to the loss of income and punitive damages requested.
