The authorities have made the point this morning about the influx of migrants at the u.s.-canada border.

The royal Canadian mounted police (RCMP) confirmed to have intercepted 3700 people for illegal entry to the country of the 1st and the 15th of August, including more than 400 in the past two days.

In July, 2995 migrants were arrested, compared to 781 in June. In the previous months, the balance sheet was running around 400 to 500, according to the RCMP.

The authorities explained that once the border crossed, they were no longer able to return migrants on u.s. soil in the immediate future. However, it was explained to them that their arrival in the country, does not represent a “ticket” to permanent residence.

The record of persons found eligible will be subsequently transferred to the immigration and refugee board of Canada. The authorities explained that in 2016, 50% of asylum-seekers from Haiti have been refused, then sent back.

In response to the influx of migrants, the border services Agency of Canada has called in reinforcements thirty officers from elsewhere in the country to help their colleagues in the post Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle.
