The Beauceron David Drouin, one of the great hopes of cycling, in quebec in recent years, continues to proclaim his innocence on appeal despite a positive drugs test.
The life of David has failed over last winter, but he wants to fight to prove that he has nothing to apologize for.
Despite two days of hearing before a referee of the canadian Centre for ethics in sport (CCES), in may, in Montreal, the rider of 22 years, comes to carry his cause on appeal because he faces a suspension of four years.
The cyclist wants to win his appeal, but he would like to especially get professional help to get to the end of the process, and mount a compelling case without breaking the bank.
A urine test conducted on 4 December 2016 was possible to detect the RAD-140, a product anabolic banned by the world anti-doping Agency (WADA). Examination of the sample B produced the same result. His team has immediately terminated his contract.
At the hearing, David has provided the only explanation that seems plausible.
His brother
“I don’t want to be a cheater the rest of my life. I think it is because of my brother who took this product. It was shakes and I took the same container or the same bottle. He went to say in front of the court. It just didn’t look. “
The cyclist from Saint-Prosper swear that this type of product could only harm him in cycling.
“Throughout my career, I’ve never taken any doping substance. I didn’t know that my brother took it, and it is rare that you méfies of the members of your family. “
The athlete has stated several times during the meeting that he never took EPO.
“It was the best canadian prospect for me. It is flat what happens to him “, says Jean-Michel Lachance, who was training with him in Mexico when David was informed of his positive result.
His career is now threatened after a season away. He knows that people douteront of his version, especially in a sport often splashed by the stories of doping.
“I don’t want a consequence for something I have not done. I have worked hard to get me there. People who know me will understand. I have nothing to hide. “
“We told the truth and they laughed at us. For them, it’s just a small village in the Beauce, ” fulminates the father of the athlete, Jean-Paul Drouin.
Bitter and disappointed, the parents of David Drouin live difficult what they perceive as an injustice.
“It’s been six months that we no longer sleeps. We are in the process of getting sick with it. For them, it is a gang of liars. However, it has been honest all our lives, ” added her mother, Claire Giroux.
No coach
His mother admits, however, that the prohibited substance in order to David, but not for his brother, was in the house. The latter has not responded to calls from the Log.
“We didn’t know it, the contamination. Everything was going well in the career of David. He had signed a contract and he deserved it. He doesn’t even coach. We did not have the means. It is not the world’s dishonest, ” adds Giroux.
Out of respect for the process, Dr. Christiane Ayotte, the laboratory of doping control, has not wanted to comment. The CCES has not made public the contents of the folder. The case has been submitted to the Centre for the settlement of disputes in the Canadian sport. The process could take a few months.
