Legalization of cannabis: Quebec launches public consultations

The government of Quebec on Monday launched its public consultation on the legalisation of cannabis, which will continue until September 12.

Citizens can now share their views on the possible legalization of marijuana in filling out the questionnaire available at the encadrementcannabis.qc.ca.

In addition, the minister delegated to the public Health, Lucie Charlebois, will begin Tuesday, a provincial tour which will stop in Gatineau, Granby, Montreal, Quebec city, Rimouski, Saguenay and Trois-Rivières. She will meet with the citizens and organizations who wish to speak on the subject.

“This consultation process is crucial, since it will allow us to equip them in the decisions to be taken in order to better cope with the issues that we consider as priorities, including ensuring the health and safety of all,” explained the minister Charlebois by press release.

This public consultation follows the expert forum on the issue held in Montreal on 19 and 20 June last.

In the light of this information, Québec intends to adopt a law to regulate the legalisation of cannabis, which is the responsibility of Ottawa. According to the schedule established by the Trudeau government, the use of cannabis could be legal as of July 1, 2018.
