LAC-MÉGANTIC | Sentenced to two years in prison for attacks on three young boys in Lac-Mégantic, in Estrie, Richard Champagne admits to have done a fourth victim.
The individual 60-year-old pleaded guilty to charges relating to events dating back to the early 1980s.
Daniel-Marc Desloges has been abused more than once by a Champagne he was only 11-12 years old.
Richard Champagne has been involved in minor hockey for over twenty years.
Known by the nickname of “Pizza”, the man had admitted to have assaulted three young pre-teens in the summer of 2016.
It is his conviction that, at the time, had prompted Daniel-Marc Desloges to denounce in turn.
By coming out publicly, the man, 49-year-old hopes to help others who continue to suffer in silence.
“It takes a lot of courage to file a complaint, but it is extremely [relieving] at the end of the account. If others recognised this, and have been its victim, they can report in confidence, they are not forced to go out of the shadow as I am,” said Desloges.
As Champagne is already serving a sentence of two years imprisonment, the judge Conrad Chapdelaine has agreed to suspend the imposition of another sentence, imposing a supervised probation of three years to the end of his period of incarceration.
The name of Richard Champagne will also be listed on the national Register of sex offenders for the rest of his life.
According to TVA News, has been able to learn, other complaints about it would be is currently the subject of an investigation by the Sûreté du Québec.
The list of his victims could therefore be longer.
