Germany had already faced his ” Angel of death “. Stephan Letter, a male nurse, 38 years old, had been sentenced to life in prison for the 2006 murder of 29 of his patients. But a new similar case arouses terror across the Rhine.

Niels Högel, still nursing, would have killed at least 90 people, and can be up to 180, according to the German authorities. “We can prove at least 90 murders, and there are at least as much as we can’t prove,” said Arne Schmidt, in charge of the investigation.

This impressive number was achieved after “134 exhumations, and many hundreds of testimonials,” he said.

The hand in the bag

The nurse of 41 years no night anymore since a few years. He has already been sentenced to prison in 2008, and then to life in 2015 for two murders, and four additional attempts.
The facts happened in 2005. Niels Högel had been surprised in full action by a colleague, while he was attempting to administer a non-prescribed one of his patients of the clinic in Delmenhorst, near Bremen in the north of the country.

The investigation had then been fueled by several other suspected cases, reported by people who had doubts about the deaths of their loved ones. After the exhumation of the body, three murders had been confirmed, and in two additional cases, the injections had been designated as “possible cause” of death.
