    The activist anti-globalization Jaggi Singh pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of obstruction and impersonation that have been brought against him in the wake of the events of 20 August.

    The appearance of Jaggi Singh in the municipal court of Québec city was interrupted only a few minutes after the start of the hearing after the accused has asked to speak to a lawyer.

    Jaggi Singh had originally intended to represent the only, but it is ravisé when the Crown announced that it was opposed to his release.

    The Crown prosecutor Marie-Hélène Guillemette has relied on the grounds of safety and was concerned that the accused would commit new offences.

    In the beginning of the session, Jaggi Singh has asked for a change of judge by questioning the impartiality of the first president of the hearing.

    Jaggi Singh is facing charges of obstruction and impersonation in connection with the event pro-immigration of 20 August, which had been declared illegal by the police Department of the City of Quebec.

    The activist had refused to move at the request of a police officer and he was identified under the false name Michel Goulet, in reference to the former player of the Quebec Nordiques. He explained the next day in describing herself as a hockey fan.

    He was arrested Tuesday in Montreal and then transported to Quebec under police escort where he spent the night in detention at the central police in Victoria park.
