THREE-RIVERS | Near $ 27 million is being invested to connect a dozen of municipalities of the Mauricie and Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean on the optical fibre, which comes place the bases for the cell phone along route 155.
The federal and provincial governments announced Thursday an investment of $ 27 million for the high speed Internet is accessible from Shawinigan to Chambord via the optical fiber, a project managed by Solutions Ambra.
Once the new backbone of optical fiber is constructed, it may be used by telecommunication companies to offer cellular phone along the 155, as called for in the sector since many years, especially in regards to security.
The work should begin next summer and be completed by 2020.
Currently, the cell phone does not fit over long stretches of up to 100 km, sometimes in uninhabited areas, this poses a problem when there are accidents and that the emergency services should be called.
“The implementation of a mobile phone network covering the whole of the route 155 is of utmost importance to ensure the safety of those who travel this way connecting the Region to the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean “, said the minister responsible for the Mauricie region Julie Boulet.
