Some sex leads to the seventh heaven ; others, to the morgue. Cardiologists gathered in congress in Barcelona warn against the dangers of unknown sexual intercourse. The cardiac risks that are sometimes attributed are identified ; what is less well known, however, is that cardiac arrest occurring in a full embrace were more likely to be fatal. This, for a case of modesty : the lovers, often while naked, don’t dare pick up the phone to call the emergency services.

This finding comes from a French study presented at the European Congress of Cardiology. The data of 3028 individuals admitted to the emergency room for a cardiac arrest were reviewed by the team Ardalan Sharifzadehgan, cardiologist at the European Hospital George Pompidou.

“Embarrassing”

Among the group, 246 cardiac arrests have occurred during a physical activity and 17, during a sexual intercourse. All patients were men. However, the researchers observed that the mortality rate was multiplied by four if the cardiac arrest occurred at this occasion. Only one man in eight people survived such an accident, against a person in two, in other circumstances.

According to Ardalan Sharifzadehgan, this high mortality is linked to the time it takes for the partner to call the emergency services. “They were shocked, they do not know how to react, he explained. They are naked, do not dare to maybe not call the neighbors… It is very, very annoying “.

Cardiac Massage

They take a long time, therefore, to deploy good reflexes. However, during a cardiac arrest, studies show that every minute wasted reduces chance of survival by 10 %. In the work, the partners who knew such an event during the sexual act were two times more time to be reanimated.

In addition, their partner terrorized tend not to attempt acts of resuscitation. On average, victims spent an 8.4 minutes without any assistance before the arrival of the relief, so that if the cardiac arrest occurs in other circumstances (gym, field…), with four victims out of five were receiving cardiac massage at the end of 3.1 minutes.
