A young man from Repentigny will come with a fine of $ 2,250 to have escaped while a police officer was clinging to his vehicle.

Paul-André Lauzon comes out to good account, noted by justice John Roy Friday.

What he has done may 3, 2015 could have consequences much more serious, both for him and for the agent Martin Forget.

The police de L’assomption/Saint-Sulpice has intercepted the 33 year-old man for an excess of speed, on the rue Notre-Dame in Saint-Sulpice.

However, he realized that the driver seemed to display symptoms of driving while intoxicated. The agent has therefore asked for reinforcements on the radio waves, as well as a device of detection for drinking and driving.

For a reason that was not explained to the Court, Lauzon has decided, however, to scampering away. The agent Forget grabbed at his Jeep and told it repeatedly to stop, in vain.

    Injuries

The policeman finally let go after being dragged over an estimated distance of 20 to 30 metres. Injured back, shoulder, and ankle straight, and the agent Forget is back in her autopatrouille to begin the pursuit of the fugitive.

The vehicles have reached a speed of 120 km/h in a zone where the limit is 70 km/h.

Lauzon did eventually stop of its own accord, a few kilometers away. Come in reinforcement from his colleague, agent Jean-Pierre Longpré then approached the vehicle, weapon in hand, to ask the driver to get out.

The accused took some time to run, despite the insistence of police officers. He was handcuffed after lying on the ground.

The agent Forget was assigned to light work for two weeks after this lawsuit.

    Charges reduced

The accused 33-year-old was facing a number of counts of dangerous driving causing injury to a peace officer, obstructing police, and escape during a police chase.

He was also accused of driving while intoxicated, but he was acquitted as his trial began Friday, at the courthouse in Joliette.

Negotiations then occurred between the Crown and the defence, and the accused has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault causing bodily harm to a peace officer, in addition to the chief obstruction.

The suggestion that the common lawyers, the judge John Roy, of the Quebec Court, and sentenced him to a fine of $ 2250 $. It will then be a model citizen for a year.

Lauzon also took the opportunity to set another folder of possession of cocaine and non-compliance of commitment. Another fine of a few hundred dollars just added to his sentence.
