12 people died from overdoses linked to Fentanyl during the month of August in Montreal said mayor Denis Coderre this afternoon at a press briefing.

“We do not live in a crisis, but one anticipates a crisis,” said Denis Coderre.

The mayor also said that 24 people had been saved during the same month of August thanks to the use of Naloxone, an antidote to overdoses related to opioids.

Denis Coderre, who had consulted in the morning the whole of the actor’s Group of the watchtower of the overdose of Montreal has also indicated that the slopes for training fire fighters and police officers in the use of this antidote were in the study.

“In some neighbourhoods, like Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, or Ville-Marie you may want to consider putting in place pilot projects,” said the mayor.

Mayor Coderre said that he thought that a change of regulation in order to simplify the access to Naloxone was “a good idea”.

“These are things that take a little bit of time, but we are not in a mode of reaction we are working on it for a moment, said Denis Coderre. Today I just wanted to know what was the situation.”
