More than 60 homes destroyed by fire in the Cariboo region

WILLIAMS LAKE, British Columbia-a total of 62 homes have been destroyed by the forest fires that ravage the region of Cariboo, in British Columbia, announced the local authorities on Tuesday.

By far the sector most affected by the fire monsters that ravage the province of the west, the Cariboo region has also lost 140 buildings, such as barns, garages and sheds, for a total of more than 200 structures razed. These figures, however, are likely to continue to climb, since areas of the region have not yet been evaluated, the fires still rage.

“I would like to express my sincere regret to those who have lost their homes and other buildings in the Cariboo region. I encourage our communities to offer love and help to these families as we know so well in the region,” said chairman of the Cariboo regional district, Al Richmond, in a news release.

Other regions, including the Thompson-Nicola, have also suffered greatly in the fires. On the 1st of August, the government of british columbian, recalled that up to 300 buildings may have been razed in July in the province.

As of the date of Monday 4 September, more than 1.16 million hectares of forest had been ravaged in b.c. by 1207 fires since April 1. Alone, the Cariboo region represents 879 276 hectares burned.

In comparison, only 6613 hectares of forest were affected by fires in Quebec this year, according to data from the SOPFEU.
