GRANBY | A family of Granby lives difficult moments, while the government refuses to pay him for the help promised to a disabled child requiring exceptional measures.

The world of small Milann, 6 years old, is quite different. Behind his infectious smile, it hides a wide range of diagnoses, including Trisomy 21, autism, asthma and ADHD. A total of 13 specialists have confirmed the trials that crosses the Dubois family.

Everyday, his parents face the reality. To make matters worse, the help of Quebec, to meet the needs of parents living with a child with a disability struggle with exceptional needs has been denied. “I’m angry. I shouldn’t have to beat me to be his mother”, said Véronique Piquette, the mother of Milann.

Medicines, treatments of all kinds, frequent visits to the hospitals, in addition to an agenda guided by the particular world of Milann: no respite for the mom, and not more, for the dad who has to work six, even seven days a week to meet the needs of the family.

According to the criteria established by Quebec, in order to be entitled to the additional $ 947 per month, Milann should neither walk nor be able to socialize.

However, if he was in a foster family, the latter would receive $ 42,000 per year.

The mother of Milann came into contact with the member caquiste Granby, François Bonnardel. The latter has promised him her full support. “This is not normal for this to happen, he said. The protocol does not work and the slightest of things, it would be that someone in the ministry meets with the family to see the merits of their request.”

The case of Milann is not unique. Several other families are simply not the energy to fight to be heard.
