This Thursday, the Neurocampus in Bordeaux has been officially completed, with the inauguration of the centre Broca. With its 650 researchers French, but also European and international, the centre, which brings together the university hospital of Bordeaux, teams from the Inserm, the CNRS and the Inra, the group presents itself as a centre of research excellence in neuroscience.
The centre Broca inaugurated on Thursday has cost 67 million euros, funded in large part by the regional council. It now includes activities ranging from basic research to the clinic, the cell in the laboratory to the patient in the hospital.
By its scope of activities and its attractiveness, the leaders of the Neurocampus Bordeaux want it to compete with european research centres or even american universities.
Christophe Mulle, director of structure, explains to Pourquoidocteur the progress and challenges of the consolidation of activities on the campus of Bordeaux.
What will be the activities of the centre Broca ?
Christophe Mulle : It integrates with a real campus, with buildings connected to each other, with research laboratories, school of neurosciences, and the university hospital of Bordeaux, therefore, in direct link with the clinical aspect of the research. There are, in all, 50 teams, each with its own specialty. It is a multidisciplinary centre with a multitude of expertise. Within these teams, major themes emerged : the neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease, and the mechanisms of addiction. We also try to get the digital in the technologies related to neuroscience on topics such as sleep.
