In addition to the members of his family and his friends, several colleagues of the deceased, wearing the uniform of the SPVQ, attended the ceremony. Various representatives of the medical world that have at one time or another taken care of Katia Pitre were also present.

“It’s so ungrateful. She has done everything, tried everything. It doesn’t make good sense to die at the age of 32,” said the mayor of Quebec city Régis Labeaume before the ceremony.

“She has shown courage is immense and has delivered quite a fight”, said the director of the SPVQ Robert Pigeon.

The liturgy of the word, presided over by the chaplain of the SPVQ René Roy, took place at the cathedral-basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec.

The doctor and the nurse who treated Katia Pitre in Switzerland have sent flowers.

The battle of Katia Pitre began in December 2011 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. A public fundraiser helped raise $ 400 000 for that Katia Pitre to follow the experimental treatments in the United States and Switzerland.
